Ok it was raining hard and very windy this morning when I was driving to school and about mile down the highway at 70mph my spare tire fell off of my truck. The whole cable and rod assembly that held it on under my truck is completely gone and my spare is smashed to pieces. What to I need to do to be able to have a spare tire again that is properly mounted underneath my truck?

The wheel is pretty much bent in half and the tire is torn up, I guess it's notin pieces but it's in sorry shape

A girl I went to highschool with was killed on the interstate from hitting someones spare tire that fell off. It was dark and she never saw it laying in the middle of the road. Maybe you should notify Toyota about this. Just a thought that might save a life.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Turn your truck in for frame rust buyback. That is a failure because your crossmembers are gone.

See the thread on a possible Toyota recall on 1st Gen trucks due to undercarraige rust, which can cause this.

I have already had the frame rust test done and my truck had no problems. The part that broke off is not the acutal block on the underside but the steel rod that connected to the wheel and the braided wire that held it in place. The main problem I have right now is locating a new spare tire carrier that will mount under the bed of my truck. Toyota wants like $300 but I refuse to pay that much. Theres a limited supply of tacomas in my year range in the local slavage yards and none of them say they have the part. Any ideas where to find a spare tire carrier?
