P0171 code wont go away

My truck has been throwing a P0171 code for awhile now. I have replaced the front and rear o2 sensors, cleaned the MAF and checked for exhaust leaks but it still returns even after resetting the computer and having it cleared at auto stores. Any other suggestions?

 

I think that is a System To Lean condition- So fuel system (injectors, rails, etc) would be next imo....but I'm no pro...

 

Thank you for your advice. Are the fuel injectors hard or expensive to replace? I dont want to drop alot of money into my truck right before I go to college.And could replacing the MAF sensor help at all?

Ok. I have found a used MAF sensor from a truck exactly like mine on ebay for $25. The truck had 175,000 miles. Would you trust this sensor to work properly for at least a year?

 

did you check for the vaccum leaks?i myself have never replaced a maf sensor for this code.you need to check for vacum leaks.you can use propane or brake kleen spray it around intake,fuel injectors you will hear the idle rise when a leak is found.on older cars and trucks you need to check your intake hose.your looking for leaks after the maf sensor.don't just start replacing parts till your sure of the source of the problem.it is cheaper to take your time and diagnos it right then to just throw parts at it.

 

Thank you. I will try that, but I have never heard of using brake cleaner or propane to find the leaks, it seems kinda odd to me.

It is perfectly normal to use propane to find leaks on cars intake and vacuum lines.

matter of fact some service manuals for cars has you do that as a step.

older carburated cars actually tell you to use propane to set idle mixture and such.

so no worries. once u try it your gonna fall in love with it.

 

I went to try to find the leaks and my dad had a coniption at the thought of my finding leaks using a combnustible substance in the engine bay while the engine was running. Is he paranoid or is explosion a possibility?

 

Do you have a aftermarket air filter say any filter you have to put oil on?? If you over oil it the oil could get on the maf and make that code appear. Just a though.

I just had my MAF go out on me too. That code is usually always that MAF. Mine went out around 161,000, so i wouldn't suggest buying that used one from a motor with 175k. I wouldn't suggest buying a used one at all. For about $150 u can get a new one and then u won't have to worry about it for like ten years.
