I had that issue on my 1st gen rado, sad to see they still have it. It was the reason I ultimately traded it for my Tacoma.

It might the way they priced the off road package. It is like $3250 for drings, 30" Duratracs, and other crap. And people think the Baja option was over priced.

Dropped by the Chevy dealer today. They had only two Colorados on the lot, both preordered and sold, none available for a test drive or even to unlock and see the interior. DCSB 212 inches length, DCLB 224 inches length. Access Cab better jump seats than the Tacoma.

The two on the lot were Z71 DCSB's MSRP $36,471. The salesman said good luck getting them to budge off MSRP, who knows if that is true. Have the Eaton rear locker, all the bells and whistles.

    http://www.gmc.com/canyon-small-pickup-truck/features-specs/options.html?seo=goo_|_GMC_Retention_|_GMNA%7CUS%7CGMC%7CGOOG%7CS%7CBP%7CA%7CEX%7CRTN%7CCYN%7CMPU%7C%28null%29%7C%28null%29%7C2015-Canyon_|_2015+Feature_|_2015%20gmc%20canyon%20specs

8.3 inch ground clearance, rear shocks mounted mid axle. Good looking truck but not close to as good offroad stock compared to the Tacoma Offroad. Not quite as good offroad as an SR5 actually because of the rear shock mounts and little bit less ground clearance

I can see these being good sellers eventually. The 2.8 Duramax diesel built in Thailand and puts out 200hp/360 torque in current international version.

You would have to be mentally ill to pay MSRP for any GM product.

GM is counting their chickens before they have hatched. They barely outsold the Frontier last month & have not come close to outselling the Tacoma.

As someone in the market for a mid-size pick-up, I figured I would chime in here as my first post.

I have been weighing both vehicles. Honestly, the Colorado drives very smooth, has good power, and gets better MPG. I have owned GM products and love them. That being said...they were all with the LS engine, pretty indestructible.

The reasons I will likely go Tacoma are as follows:
    1) Given the competition of the Colorado and a new Tacoma coming out soon, prices are much better
    2) Availability: I can go to almost any Toyota dealership and find the exact truck and options I want. I have not only not been able to test drive a double cab colorado, but I haven't even SEEN the color I want. All dealers are saying they are almost by order only due to low production and high demand. Thats all well and good...but I have severe reservations about ordering a combination I've never seen and trusting I will like it. Many dealerships require a $500 deposit. So I would deposit $500, wait 3 months, and HOPE I like the end result. Not only that, but having to special order really hinders the ability to haggle.
    3) The Tacoma has a good track record
    4) The Tacoma looks much more like a truck...the Colorado looks like an SUV with a truck bed.
    5) Tacoma interior has much more room
    6) Although the Chevy is new and time will tell...Tacoma will almost certainly have better resale
    7) Online community: I know this seems minor, but my daily (and soon to be a garage queen) is a 2004 GTO. The community for that car on ls1gto is amazing. I have literally been able to fix everything on the car myself with the threads on there. I know the Colorado is new and shouldn't need that, but 10 years of knowledge on here is sure to trump anything that I come across when the Colorado warranty would expire in a few years.

The Chevy does have a lot of upside, if it was more available I may be leaning toward it. The dealer here told me they took out the luxury package (6 way power seats, full leather). So now they only have the leather trim and 2 way power seats. For much cheaper I can take the Tacoma and spend $1000 and a weekend to put in leather seats, then all I'm giving up is forward and back power seats...not a big deal.

When it comes to MPG, the Tacoma will cost me $500 a year more in gas. Since the truck comes in cheaper, I save $3000 or so...6 years worth of gas.

It is Toyota's mentality in availability and pricing of their current gen Taco's that only further contributes their ability to dominate the mid size truck segment and rule it up to this point with an iron fist. Your statement above about the Colorado's availability only further confirms that. BTW, it's nice to see you again Silverbullet! I remember you from the Goat forums. I'm not sure if you remember me, but I was IBM05GTO over there. I hated that car with a passion since it was always breaking (if it wasn't the tranny, it was the suspension) which eventually led me to trade it in for this awesome truck you see in my sig pic now.

It was fun while it lasted with that car, and damn did I modify to be FAST, but I think it was that car in particular which drove me to a breaking point to ultimately hate GM products.

I do remember you lol...I kept my same username so I can remember it. Sorry you had so many issues with your goat! Mine just turned 120k. Only repairs I needed to do were a couple common culprits: driveshaft (center bearing went out, put in a 1 piece) and a radiator. All other things have been mods for me. With age, its got a couple minor issues now (driver window doesn't work, CD's don't work)...otherwise its still a gem *knocks on wood* I look forward to it becoming my weekend toy.

The GM v8's are great. My girl's 2013 Spark...different story. 51k on it and its at the dealership for a week now. Needs new pistons and a new cylinder head...essentially a rebuild. Only bright side is they are covering it all and paying for a rental (2015 Buick Lacrosse, which is very nice). That has definitely left a sour taste when it comes to anything GM without an LS or LT engine in it.

    Thank you kindly

It's funny that you mention you can get a Tacoma at any dealership. It's rare to find more than 2 on any dealership lot here in southern Michigan.

I was getting ready to type out the same thing! Taco's aren't popular in the "Big 3" motherland. Even though dealer stock is low on the new Colorado, I'm starting to see more of them on the roads each day.

I have always liked GM's V8's but a central theme that I noticed common amongst the brand is bulletproof engines and transmissions that don't last worth a darn. Lol. I'm really glad to hear you had good luck with your goat and that its still around and kickin'.

I strongly believe mine might had been a lemon from the get go but I'll never be able to prove it at this point. A lot of the vehicles we have here at my work are Tahoe's and Silverado's. All stuck in limp home mode in second gear with a poorly shifting transmission, yet the engines are in great shape, some only at 60-80K!

Moving on past GM territory, when do you get your Tacoma? I'm excited for you! Good luck keeping it stock being on here. I lasted all of about a year then I went nuts on modifying it suspension wise and I have barely now started to slow down on the mods 3 years into ownership. :D

+1, I would want the standard big 3 discount of 15 - 20%. I have seen a few ads in the Dallas paper with $3-$4k discounts. Of course you have to be real persistent to actually buy a vehicle at the ad price. I had one guy actually tell me that no one does. If my wife had not been with me I would have walked out. Right now there is no inventory on the lots so some dealers might be trying to get MSRP. Only fools would pay it. Talk about shitty resale value. Imagine how much you would lose when selling it. I drive 30 miles a day in traffic on IHwys in the metromess and have still only seen one.

The twins are very fast sellers, 1st, 3rd, 6th and 7th fastest selling trucks for February 2015. The twins have sold 17,223 units in Jan/Feb 2015, the Tacoma 23,781.

Jesus christ, and then GM wonders why they had to get bailed out in the first place. They need to spend more QA testing on their end before they put out shyt products. I understand it's all about the parts game after the sale of the vehicle, and that is their approach and how they make their money, but jesus let the stuff last at least past 36,000 miles!

They are very popular here in Southern California...much less allegiance to the big 3. Most dealerships around here have 10-15 at any time, mostly well equipped ones.

I want to be buying by in or around May...but depending on the deal I can get it could be as soon as the end of the month. Its a numbers game with the financials and all. I will likely keep it pretty stock... I will have the GTO as the modded wrenching car and the Taco will be my daily driver. I'm not an offroad guy, I just need something for home depot runs and mountain trips for snowboarding. I want to keep it quiet and comfortable. One mod I will do is leather seats with seat warmers...I despise cloth interior lol.
