No-mess way to drain the oil filter and the engine oil at the same time. Run a tube from the filter nipple to the main drain plug, zip-tie it to the magnet out of a hard disk drive. The magnet is placed out of the way while driving (usually on the oil pan), and dropped low when servicing.
