@Dlhtaco it was fall 2016, Shaffer trail in Moab, great scenery and an easy drive. My truck was stock at that point so didn't tackle anything hard.

Nice. Thought it looked familiar. Did most of the white rim trail last may. Stock truck too. Sore neck afterward but worth it.

@Dlhtaco Totally agree with you, the scenery is incredible, we stayed in moab, the group I was with was mountain biking everyday, I would have rather headed out into the desert to camp than stay in town.

@Dlhtaco your photo from the Henery mountains looks good, forest service road ?

Something to look forward to anyway. Plan way ahead to reserve a campsite. Didn't meet too many people because the route was flooded at the green river, but the ones i did meet were very friendly and from all over the country.

Yep, forest road. I tried cutting across from the west (burr trail) but could'nt make it through the mud. Swung around to the south then back north on a paved road. Only a minute or two off the main road. The plan was to camp at starr springs campground but it was full. Came back down to the pictured spot. Found out in the western states you can camp almost anywhere.

Next year I'd like to make a trip through the canadien rockies and back down through glacier nat'l park. Guessing you may have some experience traveling in these areas. Might ask for advice when you have time.

@Dlhtaco for sure, I did a trip from Banff/Canmore down to whitefish montana mainly forest service roads. Some great scenery for sure. There is a guy on here from Fernie that has some great pictures and said he would be up for showing people around.
this is a great thread as well, these guys do a nice trip report, they have been through montana and up into BC/Alberta.

Thanks! I'll have to dig into that thread. Can't believe how much info is available here.
Not sure if you'll ever head this far (minnesota) but let me know. I'm not an expert tour guide, but have been lucky enough to discover/hear about some neat spots around lake superior.
      Taker easy and happy travels.
