Finally got my RTT!

Finally got my RTT!

Great setup! I'm looking for a very similar setup on my '14 DC OR in the rear (Leitner rack w/ RTT), but the RTT I'm after is a bit larger (72" front to back, 4 person tent). If I plan on positioning it dead on center over the rack, do you think that the antenna on the rear of cab will interfere with the front-end of the RTT? I'm wondering if there's enough clearance there, and have been unable to find any useful info online.

Also, any second thoughts on your setup (even once RTT is deployed) thus far? Any significant road noise at highway speeds with the RTT installed since it sits above cab height? I don't mind making the investment in a rack (and RTT) like this, but it's not cheap so want to make sure I heading in the right direction. It'll be my first attempt at getting my family out camping with me and really hoping to make a good "first impression", especially since the wife isn't 100% on board with the whole idea just yet!

      I appreciate any info, thanks!

      Hey, David!
Thanks for the feedback, glad to hear you're thinking of going a similar route. The crossbars on the Leitner sit about 1/4" above the antenna, so no worries with the RTT hitting it. I suggest getting a 3rd cross bar if you plan to do much wheeling, as the rack does flex slightly in the ricks, and the bigger tent will strain a bit.

I couldn't be happier with this set up, considering I'm 6'2" and this is the only setup that allows me to:
-Walk around the truck with the RTT set up without ducking
-Load my motorcycle in the bed without removing the whole rack
-Securely store gear year-round without interfering with bed storage

My wife is super stoked on this setup, she fell in love with the RTT on the first trip. Bernhard is awesome to work with as well.

      Hope this helps!

Thanks Mikey, pretty much everything that I was hoping to hear. I too need the flexibility in moving those cross bars back/forth when I load up my mountain bikes which is one of the main reasons I'm digging the Leitner rack. Plus, they appear to be top-notch quality. And yes, I definitely plan on getting the third cross bar for a RTT of this size.

Just one more question...nothing too unreasonable when it comes to road noise with the RTT up there (even at highway speeds)? We don't plan on traveling across the country or anything like that, probably just stick to areas within 200-300 miles from home (live in far west Texas).

      Thanks again!

I don't notice any noise from mine, but I do notice the wind resistance... I didn't buy a tacoma to save on gas though! The RTT brackets from Leitner make it real easy to install and remove, highly recommend them

Gotcha, I'll keep that in mind.
