From a Highlander to a Tacoma

That's right. I towed my 15 foot 1955 airframe trailer with the '04 Highlander for five years, twenty thousand miles. Time to step up. I like the 6500# tow rating of the PreRunner. The Highlander was 3500# and the trailer is 2750#, wet. And I like carrying the bikes on top of the tonneau cover instead of up on the roof rack of the Highlander. All our camping gear, trailer spare tire, 1K inverter/generator, milk crates with trailer gear (hoses, cables, tools, cribbing, etc.) fits in the short bed, and the double cab is just spacious. While curb weight is about the same, obviously the truck can carry much more weight. Turning radius is 37' on the Highlander, 40' on the Double Cab Tacoma. The Highlander is a helluva car. It's 3.3 L V6 develops about the same horsepower as the 4.0 L V6 in the Tacoma, so it towed the trailer just fine. But with all the gear, I was beginning to push the limit of the Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating. With the Tacoma, I feel much more comfortable in that regard, though the ride is less comfortable because it's a truck.
