0-60 Time

Is it true you can lower your 0-60 time in H4..?

 

Are you driving on a slippery surface? Are you ice racing? There's a max speed you can travel at while in 4H. I would never suggest anyone to use 4x4 on cement while speeding. Doesn't sound very smart.

Trying to establish a standing 0-60mph time under full boost...

 

The simple answer is yes, as long as it's a straight line, all four tires are gripping and drivin the vehicle instead of just two, thus dividing out the overall friction and traction to all four tires, we use this field racing all the time. HOWEVER, I wouldn't suggest this on dry pavement.. You don't wanna be in 4wheel on dry pavement because the two front wheels pull unevenly and effectively strain and destroy the transferee case and front end drive. Where this "4h" is actually effective are in cars like subaru's that use all-wheel drive. Cars like this actively use all four wheels to maintain traction and control on all four corners.

So then you'll be mor concerned with what rpm you're runnin at than what traction or drive you're in.. Full boost is gonna be determined by your rpm for a supercharger (exhaust speed for turbo) and not what drive you're in, so to maintain high boost you need to maintain a certain rpm which will be governed by your gear relative to your speed.

 

I get full boost at the end of the power range at about 5400 rpm..7-8psi, Rev and speed limiters start chocking it down alittle after at that point..
My initial question was ." can I from a standing start decrease my 0-60 time in H4, I obviously don't run in H4 while driving at speed,(over 60) or on dry surfaces for long.

 

The answer is that yes you should be able to reduce you time because you off the line start should be faster but you have a super so I'd have to guess that if you accurately kept your boost high in 2wheel you'd do better overall and not stress the truck nearly as much

 

Yah,,also thinking there would be parasitic drag off the S/C by engaging the transfer case....what the hell, a man has to know what his truck is capable of right..........as I replace a front transfer he says......

 

YES, If your spinning in 2WD, then 4H will get you to 60 faster.

To answer the question, a lot of drag racers will launch in 4wd and drop out of 4H once they get moving. You can launch much harder without breaking traction in 4wd.
Once you're through the launch and 1-2 shift, there is no advantage to 4wd on either 0-60 or ET.

 

Never seen a drag race or F1 race won by awd or 4wd vehicle. A few have tried awd in F1 races but the result wasn't good never a winner. So no one currently using awd anymore in that race. 100% power at the rear gives better launch power than 50 at rear and 50 at front. also handling is better with 100 at rear.

 

I've watched a lot of very successful people running 12 second quarters in Duramax pickups launching in 4wd.

Launch in 4HI, then 2 and report results?

 

Driver's skill definitely matters so some drag races maybe won by 4wd or awd, but if you see the most competitive race with pro drivers such as F1 and it has been proven, tried and tested 100% power at the rear is always better for launching and handling.
