Any one else get as shitty of gas mileage that I do?

Unfortunately most of my driving has been city but I checked recently and I was getting just under 15 mpg. On the most recent fill up I tried to be uber frugal and kept my rpm's mostly under 2000 but still only made it up to 16.25 mpg.

    What gives?

A technique i use is to let off the throttle slightly around the preprogrammed shift points for the 3-4-5 shifts. Lets the truck up shift as early as it can and continue to accelerate gently using the higher gear. I consistently get better gas mileage than my wife in her F150 and I get mid 18's in the Toyota with the S/C with mostly in town driving. Have you done any mods? I run tire pressure a little on the high side on the stock P rated. Also I just switched my the axle and Transfer case to Red Line synthetic and have hit the low 19's but not quite ready to call that a improvement until I get a few more tanks through.

Recommend cleaning the throttle body, especially if you never had it cleaned and there is DIY write up on how to do this. You might want to consider using higher octane gasoline. I did a few tests filling up with regular and premium gasoline a few months after purchasing my truck and found that I the truck averaged 2mpg more on premium vs regular, so I have continued to use premium gas only. For the extra cents per gallon I pay at the pump for premium, I drive approximately 35 more miles per fill up compared to using regular, so I wasn't really saving any money using regular gas. Also had a noticeable improvement in performance using higher octane. Better pick-up from a stop and accelerating on the freeway, and on inclines. The engine ran quieter and smoother, as well. Unless, I had a wheel bearing going bad, I have averaged 18.5 city/20.5 hwy (driving in fast lane :))

If you have a wheel bearing going bad, that will definitely decrease your mpg.... The first time I had a wheel bearing go bad I lost like 3mpg. Just realized I have a bad wheel bearing again, but this time it was much harder to diagnose and took quite awhile before it displayed the common symptoms. Hope this helps. 15mpg would bother the heck out me.

Same here, but I don't do the calculations to compensate for the larger tires when I enter it in. So I might be getting an extra .5 or whatever than what it shows each time.

I average around 18-1/2 to 19mpg. (Mostly highway) Have done 22 on a road trip....Speeds around 60, cruise set, and relatively flat roads. Worst tank was 16-something when I got caught in a traffic jam a month or so ago.... Spent 3 hours covering less than 5 miles that day. My mileage was pretty consistent above 20 with "stock rubber". Went to Goodyear Duratracs (265/75/r16, load range C) a few months back. I lost less than 1 mpg once I decided to pump 'em up to 38psi, with 30psi, gas mileage sucked.

    I do drive like a grampa.....'cause I AM a grampa....

2011 DCSB, TRD OR, 4.0 V6, auto. Speedo checked (using police radar gun while they were doing training) and VERY accurate. Odo checked over LONG road trip against marked hwy mileage. With-in 1/2 mile over a 475 mile trip. I'm good with what the dashboard tells me.
Close enough for government work" as they say!

I don't know how you guys do it. I would think that I shouldn't have to do much at all since the truck is only 5 months old. The only thing that isn't stock is the roof rack. So bring on the suggestions.

Some say switching all of your gear oil to synthetic (when the time comes) will improve MPG. Probably negligible. Stop and start driving kills mileage as you know.

I got 14.7 on my last tank but that was all off/road and city driving and I have a suspension lift, heavy tool box, and larger than stock 10 ply tires. My average is usually around 15-17. These are definitely not the most fuel efficient trucks on the road with the old reliable engine and 5 speed auto transmission but I'm still sure their ownership and operation cost is better than any other truck.

I get around 18-20mpg empty, 15mpg towing (2quads or sleds, alum trailer, approx 2000lbs +/-, trans in 4, 65mph max). I'm relatively easy on the throttle. Taco is stock.

Could it be where your getting your fuel? My wife has found that if she fills up her car ('12 CRV) at Speedway, Walmart or Shell her mpg's drop. She now only gets gas at Wesco.
