have a 2000 with the power windows. Drivers side window will not go all the way down, it stops like 2” short. Took the door panel off today and can’t find any reason it’s not going all the way down ie no loose bolts or a blockage of some sort.

    Not thinking it’s the switch.

Remove the the window glass from the regulator, tape the glass in the full up position so it's out the way, then hold the window down switch. If it works correctly with out the glass then there is some blockage or maybe dried up window runs that are stuck together.

Mine isn’t long for this world either and of course I knew about it in June. I replaced a steering rack on a 2003 last week for my buddy, it had manual windows... soooo wanted to swap the doors :anonymous:

    Lets back up!

How did you get to the point ?? Window worked as it should just started to not go all the way down??

New Truck to you window like this when you brought it home missed in pre purchase inspection or it was not important enough .

Even a slight twist to any of the window frame will cause issues.

Truck is new to me, it’s a 5speed 4x4 with locker so I overlooked some small issues to get the options I wanted. : )

really just want to drive around with my arm hanging out the door. The weather has been so nice lately.

I'd do as suggested above and try running it down with the glass detached and check for old grease sludge near the ends of the travel path for the rollers and the drive gear (red circles image 1). Of course, lube after cleaning. Me personally, I might use dry lube so it doesn't get stiff in cold weather. Make sure to put some thread locker on those bolts holding the glass or they will work loose after a while.

A little vaseline in the glass run (rubber channel at edge of the glass) lower and upper portions will help too. Do the lower half while you have the panel off and the window up.

If you think it's binding up, slightly loosen the bolts/nut in the second image below, then cycle it down. Run it up/down several times. Snug them while down. If it binds going up, of course loosen them again and repeat until you find the sweet spot.

I only have manual windows. Do the 1st gen power windows have auto up/down with Jampro? Can you push the button and let off and it goes on down w/o holding the button and does it stop and reverse if there is something in it's path? Only reason I ask is maybe the body ECU for the up/down needs reteach. If they have it, you might try the battery disconnect for 30 minutes or so and reset it.

BTW, here is the torque on those bolts:

    2000 FSM
    (b) w/ Power window: Disconnect the connector, then remove the 6 bolts and window regulator. Torque: 4.9 N·m (50 kgf·cm, 43 in.·lbf)

With the window down as far as it will go, grab the glass and lift up and down to see if there is any movement. If there is then its not the glass binding its something in the regulator itself.

my driver window will go all the way down pressing button until it clicks and let go
it does not go up all the way unless i hold the button up

i was told i could use some WD40 water resistant silicone spray in the run channel to clean and reduce chatter :notsure: when window goes up and down
was this the wrong product to use for long lasting results
it likely introduced a new gremlin into my window operation while partially down for fresh air that i am currently stupefied about

Detached the window and held it up. Seems to be in the regulator.
W/o the window attached it’s the same.

Think I found an issue, seems at the end of travel the motor runs out of geared teeth to run down. I’m wondering if the motor was replaced and they have it offset so the motor has spare teeth at the top and runs out of teeth at the bottom.

And it appears someone was in here before, the plastic is ripped to cover the mechanism.

Looks like just getting the regulator and motor in the correct timing should fix your problem.

It has been so long since I had one apart I would need to look how to adjust them

You can see where it hasn’t been running all the way to the top.

well whatever the heck i did from cleaning the channel down inside and letting it drizzle and soak down inside the door while moving window up and down to pentrate better made it operate real funky like it never has before!

it introduced a noisy wind rattle on the glass while driving (at most any speed) with window partially down for some fresh air and/or to hear the local traffic pass by
what could i have possibly done to damage the mechanism :notsure: by spraying the inner channel but good

Cleaned out all the dirt that has been in there for years acting as fill for worn parts ??

Different models vary but it's my understanding most motors turn one way, then the other 'til you let off the button.

There is no 'stop tooth'. Regulator problem or motor overheating.

i really do not know! was just 'trying to save' the motor from overworking the chatter of possibly dirty run channels
and now it wants to screw with my psyche :goingcrazy:
i do like to hear the world outside but now maybe have to close it up for good... its that bad at times
