What's a good choice of shell for looks, durability, & ease of function that you have or have had in the past? Thanks in advance...

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
My '06 with an ARE. My current LEER looks very similar. ARE's quality control had taken a hit in recent years. Same, because they used to be very good.

I prefer the above cab cap for the ability to put taller things in the back, like my bike. The extra headroom is nice for my current setup, being able to camp in the back.

I had a Leer 100XL on my 2nd gen. It was fine. Main takeaway is they are spendy. Don't get one unless you have a need for it. They all leak regardless of brand and sealants used. I'd give consideration to getting windoors for the side windows for function if I did it again.

If you want to camp in it at all or fit taller things, definitely consider getting a midrise. I would strongly consider windoors for the sides, they make getting stuff out so much easier than crawling in from the back. High rise caps look a little goofy imo and I think you lose the option of windoors. I don't think any manufacturer is better than the others, just whatever gives you the options and look you want. Buying used off marketplace or craigslist will save a ton of money.

I've had several camper shells on various trucks in the past. The fiberglass shells are heavy to lift on and off, IMO. A rubber boot, while convenient for passing things from front to back, will quickly rub all the paint off the back of the cab. I think I have an A.R.E. Classic aluminum shell (there is no ID tag, so I can't be sure) on the Tacoma I just bought...it is very lightweight, there is no rubber boot (there is a space between the cab and the shell), and both side windows swing open for access to the sides and front of the bed.
