totally agree. That may be one of the best goals I have seen so far, besides the US's goal against England. Don't quit till you hear the whistle, they proved that for sure.

Competition has started slow - 20 goals in 12 matches as of the finish of Slovakia v New Zealand. Not suprising as these guys don't play together very often. However, one and two goal games can be very exciting. Let's just hope we DON'T get a repeat of the Germany '06 final of Italy v France - perhaps the two most hated and boring teams in the world.

While it was a goal-idk that it qualifies as a "Great" goal. It was a keeper mistake. He had it stopped- if he had held on- it would have gone in. No real flair there- just a powerful off axis kick.

And 20 goals by 20 different players-No repeat scorers yet. Should make the later games interesting!!

I agree that the US goal was not a great display of talent, but when your country scores and the atmosphere around you explodes, it is a "great goal".

Half German/ Half Dutch. Born in Germany so I always hope for them to win. They always seem to come in second or third the last few major world tournaments. Maybe having one of the youngest teams and a new captain will help them finally win. Fingers crossed otherwise I hope the boys in Orange take it. However, if all else fails than maybe an African team. As long as its not France or Italy. I'm not a fan of Brazil (think their like the L.A Lakers), but damn them boys always bring it to a match.

4-0 and 2-0 great starts for both teams even though the Dutch had some help ;)

The US goal was a complete gift they should have lost that match. Doesn't matter, they are both going through to the knockout stage. The draw now makes it interesting because the group will come down to goal difference (this is assuming that England or the United States will not lose to Slovenia or Algeria). If England win the group, then they do not have to go through Germany, the likely winner of their group.

I wasn't being totally serious , it was a gift goal , albeit by the keeper's own very poor play .

And I can't totally agree with your point that every goal is scored because someone makes a mistake , if a striker one touches a ball and volleys a cracker , no spin , dead flat , 90 mph shot , top shelf from 45 yards , to the far corner just over the diving keeper's outstretched fingers , who exactly made the mistake on the defending team ? Some goals are undefendable .

PS I wish I'd not been such a dumb ass as to look at this thread BEFORE I watched the games I recorded today while I was at work .

    That was a mistake .

Who ever left the striker open without pressure between him and the net. Or who ever left the hole for the feeder pass to head thru. It might not be an obvious bobble like that keep had- but someone is out of place or not doing their job to the best of their ability if a ball goes in the net.

i just hope netherlands takes it..spain is overrated and argentina doesnt have a defense or a goal keeper. Germany is always a candidate but the team is too young, unlike italy thats pretty old but also a candidate. Football was revolutionized by the netherlnds in the 70's too bad they got 2second places. and brazil is great and all but common let someone else win..
