Anyone have this problem? The plastic garnish they call or whatever it's called cracked/broken on mine at 28k and the dealership can't order one because there's no part number. Oh man.

What is the function? Is something not working properly, or is it trim?

Well I took it in last week and they removed it trying to repair and in the process they left it off. Without the cover/garnish the tailgate will just slam when open and now it's loose.

So is this a 3rd gen, where you posted, or is this on an '11 Tundra that's in your profile?

Seems like it is a 3rd gen, and that adapter is key to the slow release of the tailgate.

Nevertheless, this is covered. If there's no part # for it, they need to order you a whole new tailgate.

Why not just the offending part?

I've order two of those and the dealer did also and just received the hinge part only without plastic cap. Three total dealerships I've tried

I'd find another super white on the lot. Have them install the 66120F assembly, including the plastic bit, from that truck.

When it's their problem to fix their own truck to be able to sell it, they will be more inspired to find the solution.

Going to several different dealers is a waste of time in most instances....unless your service dept is REALLY that bad! If you haven't already, talk with the service manager, if he/she can't resolve it, go above their head. If it were me, I would have them order a whole new tailgate, have them color match it at the body shop and be done with it.

it comes with another part, just because there is no part number for the specific item doesnt mean he gets a whole new tailgate that has nothing to do with the broken part that still will not come with the piece he needs.

I worked in Toyota Parts for 4 years, i hated customers like you.

I was thinking its a lemon

I don't think he should get a new tailgate, but if they can not get just the part, then the service department needs to get what ever has that piece on it so they can fix it. You would really hate me, I would fight and be nice and loud in the dealership until they fixed my issue. People pay too much freaking money to have to deal with this shit.
We as consumers are not getting compensated for the time it takes to fight with the dealerships to fix shit. I just spent an hour, well 45 minutes, to drop off my truck that has 251 miles on it, to fix a scratch on the roof that was there when I bought it. Now I am driving a tiny freaking Corolla for the next 3 days, never mind they had my truck for almost a week before I drove it home.

i absolutely agree the dealership needs to make this right. If there are no parts available yet then take one off a truck that has yet to be PDI'd and get the inventory trucks part replaced so the customer can be on their way. It has to come on one part, If it were me i would be ordering the surrounding parts to hopefully find the one it comes with. Then once we discover where the part is a part of, bill that part complete to Service, which would bill to warranty. Parts then returns the other items and customer is happy.

But sadly, customer service is a dying commodity.

Seems to me a plastic cap like that could be sourced from Ace Hardware. Pretty sure I've seen something just like it around the furniture parts.
