It is a self install. Very easy. Pop off the radio bezel, then the instrument cluster bezel. Remove the screws for the instrument cluster. Unplug the large plug at the upper center of the cluster, plug in the jumper to the cluster and the other end to the connector that originally plugged into the cluster. It took less than 10 minutes.

For op and anyone doing this in the future: when programming the calibrator with software before installing it, use the factory listed metric size for “stock” (I.e. p265/65 r17) and the actual, real-life measured diameter for your new tires (As in, go out and measure ground to top of the tire four times and take an average. My toyo at3s measured 31.75” despite supposedly being 33s). This method was suggested in RCs how to video for their calibrator, and doing it that way made the calibration spot on first try for me.

I actually left the usb cable dangling to make changes if needed, but yanked it out after testing the calibration against 3 gps apps and two radar signs

yeah I did it myself. Very easy to do. Also, you’ll find the hidden taco

It’s helpful to leave the USB accessible because if you just plug in your to and from tire size it isn’t exactly accurate. I had to say my 295/70r17s were 33.8” even though they aren’t. Tested a bunch going 80 and using GPS

I went to 265/75-16 from stock 245/75-16 on my 2022 SR and passing a few radar signs in a Pa.highway construction zone today, (like 8 total), two said I was going 3 and 5 mph faster than indicated, the others were dead on with my CC setting and digital display.

By the way, 1200 highway miles today.... 6th gear is useless. Gears soon. 4 banger, 2WD. It has the stock oem 4.30 already, thinking 4.88 isnt enough, even for a street truckster. Now to surf ratios!

Leave it alone. Unless you're going from stock to 35-37" tires it isn't worth the effort. Even from the factory the speedometer will be off 3-5% with factory tires. And it is constantly changing as you drive because your tires wear down and get smaller as you drive. A set of 265/70/17's with 40,000 miles on them will be the same diameter as 245/75/16's when they are new. You can either choose to have the speedometer calibrated right with new tires, or old tires. They shoot for a middle ground from the factory. They will read a little slow with new tires, a little fast when the tires are near the end of their useful life. Most drivers find the speedometer more accurate after they go up one size than with stock tires. At least when new.

You'll be within 2-3 mph of accurate at 70. At speeds of 50 or slower you'll only be off by 1-2 mph. There is a reason no cop will write you a ticket unless you're doing at least 5 over. In fact here in GA with a couple of exceptions you have to be 11 over for them to write a ticket. It's the law.

Not a chance to get a speeding tix in this rig! Hahaha. It liked fifth gear at 60/65. Sixth gear wouldnt hold for very long and itd jump to fourth all too often where it would hold fifth most of the time.

I used the Hypertech one. Easy install and works on a 22 even though it say “up to 21”.
I just left the usb attached as well as it took several adjustments to get it spot on.

Soooooooooo this confirms it works for a 2022???

Literally just got off the phone with hypertech and they said they haven't tested it on a 2022 lol. Don't wanna buy it and have it not work but the speedo difference/gas mileage readouts/ etc etc etc are really beginning to piss me off lol.

My friend just did the Rough Country on his new trail edition. It worked on his 2022 when he went to 285s. irs not that hard after I have seen it done. My tuner did mine and its worth it.

When you set up your calibrator to update and enter tire size did you have to enter your truck as a 2021 Tacoma?

I don't think so. My kdmax tuner did it.

I just did lmfao and it worked at least from what I can tell. Haven't highway tested it yet but it appears to be 1-2 mph HIGHER now... which is like stock and I'm okay with that

This can't be accomplished with a software update? Or like the OTT Tune?

@BLtheP had some trouble with one of these I think but I don’t remember the specifics.

I am rocking stock size on my 3rd Gen so I’m in ignorant bliss :)

About to swap the diff in my ‘05 and I’ll need to recalibrate that but 2nd Gen Tacomas are easier to do.
