Just wondering what the prediction is going to be as far as the 2nd generation values once the 3rd gen arrives. I was offered $22k for my truck with 60k miles, this was just at one dealer I think I could see $23k. I thought that was pretty good considering I bought it around $25k 3 years ago. I am looking to sell the truck I a year or two and was wondering if the value will drop. Any 1st gen guys chime in?

Depends on how the new 3.5 engine does.
From my understanding it will be direct inject.
If it is like most other manufacturers the first few years are the test phase.
So I would think the 2nd Gen will hold value great until about the 3 to 5 years after the 3rd Gen.

But then Toyota usually has most of the engine kinks worked out on release.

I plan on keeping my 2nd generation for a long time.
I wish I still had a first generation at times.

DI has been a big issue for every manufacturer that I have heard of. BRZ was an injection system by Toyota and I'm not all that impressed. The gas mileage was good, but there were a lot of issues...including "crickets" with the fuel pump. High pressure fuel pump was/is a big problem with BMW and Minis. Only time will tell how good new Toyota system will be. I didn't want to be a guinea pig for the BRZ and waiting over 1.5 years before I got one and was still some issues. I like a lot of the new features of the Tacoma including the interior....but no regular cab. So the combination of no regular cab and new model... I opted for 2014 truck. It doesn't seem Tacoma is losing a lot of it's value.... it's insane the resale value of this truck.

I had a gen 1 I bought and the new gen 2 came out only 2 years after...I bought and and sold it a year later because I got a sports car and I think I made $300.

01-04 double cab toyotas with 100-150k miles are selling for 50% of sticker price, 2nd gen will do the same, all we can go on is the history of these trucks, history says they will retain their value

Stumpman good looking truck- always loved the first gen double cabs. As far as Direct Injection on the 3rd gen I think its fine my wife and I bought a Mazda CX-5 2.5L with DI and it drives great and has great predicted reliability. I hope in a few years I can turn around and still get good money for my truck and still part it out as far as the aftermarket mods I have done.

I seriously doubt they will take a hit. Toyota is famous for their resale value and I don't look for that to change. I've been a pretty loyal consumer of Toyota products and so far they haven't let me down.

That said I "personally" wouldn't buy the first run of a new truck. As someone mentioned, there will be a few kinks they'll most likely have to iron out but I doubt anything will be a major issue. I plan on keeping my truck for a long time so I'm not in the market for anything right now. That and I just dropped almost $6k in stuff for it so I better keep it.

If you take your truck to the dealer for appraisal, you're gonna have a bad time.
