Hey all! Name's John, I'm out of San Jose, CA, and like I said above, I just bought my 3rd Toyota pickup. First was a '92 Toyota Pickup (4WD, Single cab, long bed, 22-RE), second was an '08 Taco (RWD, access cab, long bed, 4-banger, stick, SR-5) and now I've stepped way up in fanciness with a 2017 Tacoma double cab, long bed, V6, 4WD, automatic TRD offroad with the tow package. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty excited about it.

Anyway, I'm finally graduating from lurker status because this truck is a lot shinier and a whole lot more complicated than the last two, so I thought I could benefit from some community engagement.

On that note, I hope you will forgive me for reviving a few zombie threads here and there as I get to know my truck. After a fair amount of digging over the last couple weeks (I've only got about 10 days and 300 miles of seat time under my belt so far), the two biggest questions I have relate to the ATF and the FSM.

As for the ATF: I caught a few threads about dealerships not properly checking their automatic transmission fluid levels before delivery, but they seem pretty old at this point, and primarily about 2016s. Is this still an issue? Do I need to raise a stink? I'm symptom-free as far as I can tell (then again, it's my first automatic in over a decade, so I might be missing something), so are new 17s still coming out light?

And for the FSM: Anyone got a line on one? All the googling in the world, and I cannot find one, at least not one I can own. I'm down to spend the money, but they just don't seem to exist. I see the bit about the website you can pay for by the day, but I'd like to actually own one if possible.

Those are my bid hits. I'm mostly here to help myself keep my truck running smoothly, but I'm down to catch some culture along the way. Thanks for reading all this, look forward to talking to you all soon!

Welcome to TW! As far as the low ATF it doesn't hurt to have them do a manual check. You will probably have to leave the truck over night but my 17 checked as full through tech stream but was low when they manually checked it. I can't help with FSM because I have no clue what that is.
