4WD Prerunner 2005+

Could you take the 4X4 chassis from a 2005+ tacoma and put it in a 2005+ Prerunner? I know the electrics/etc. would get complicated, but is it possible?
Resources are not a problem (see my sig).

I'm trying to see if I can get 4wd without buying a new truck, already got LOTS of money in this one. I also might be able to keep my current 2wd insurance!

My truck is a 2008 double cab short bed Prerunner with the offroad ltd. package (has mountains on the TRD offroad sticker) Everything mechanical is stock.

 

Just to keep your truck as a 2wd for insurance purposes? Sounds like too much effort for such little results.

 

It's also my first car, I'd like to keep it for a while.

 

Just do a SAS.

 

You know you're ambitious when people recommend you JUST do an SAS.
I've spent the last 3 months learning about audio, SAS seems even more complicated - how would SAS fit what I'm trying to do? All the SAS parts plus the 4x4 conversion parts would really add up....

You're right. My bad, I spaced out on the part that you're 2wd. You'd have to already be 4wd to do a SAS.

 

4x4's and prerunners have the same chassis. The simplest way would be...
Inchworm transmission adapter, fj transfer case, and ifs parts.
After that you just have to wire up a switch for the add and your good to go
