4WD Problems

I have a 2007 Tacoma with 4WD problems. I am locked in 4WD and the flashing indicator lite on the dash indicates 4Lo. I not so sure this is correct because when I drive it feels like 4H? I'm reasonably sure the problem is one (or both) of the two 4WD actuators. The Transfer Case actuator or the Rear Differential Actuator. Of the two which one is the most likely culprit, or should I just replace both? Until I replace them is there a quick fix to get out of 4WD?

Forgive me for possibly insulting your familiarity with the system,… but you’re in neutral when trying to get out of 4low right?

if it’s a bad actuator, try tapping it lightly while it’s trying to engage/disengage. That’ll usually work for awhile until it’s replaced. Also, check the electrical connection. Good luck.

 

Agreed, you must be in neutral with an automatic trans or clutch fully depressed with a manual trans and under 3 mph to shift into and out of 4lo.

If that's not your problem have you looked under the truck at the transfer case actuator and the ADD on the front diff for any damage or broken or loose wires?

You can check limit switch voltages at the 4wd ECU to determine which switch(s) is out of range, see the thread below for more info.

No particular reason! It was just a question as I really haven't had a chance to test either but from what I've read I'm leaning toward the Transfer Case actuator. Once I've tested them, I will know for sure. Thanks for your response and any other advice I would really appreciate.
