I am trading my 09 DC sport for a 13 DC sport. 4x4 was the main reason I wanted to trade in the first place, but now that I really think about it, I'm sure I'll ever really use it. I do like to off road, but nothing extreme. Meaning I have taken many OR trips in my pre runner, but even if I had the 4x4 I dont see myself ever doing something that is 4x4 ONLY just cause I'm a chicken and don't want to risk messing anything up. I will have a lift and tires and hit things like fire trails and some light mud, but in 3 years I've never "needed" 4x4. I don't plan on changing that really. Not going LT, maybe Mid travel but nothing insane. Only time I see myself using it is 1-2 times a year going up the mountain, and that's only to go snowboarding. Nothing that a set of chains can't fix. No crazy storms in socal to need 4x and chains.

    Suggestions/opinion/experience?

Will I regret getting another 2x? I'll only use it a few times a year at most, and probably only during times I could probably get by without it anyways.

i think it is. i could never own a truck with out 4x4. not just for off roading some. but snow. and you never know kinda stuff. i say get it. also “what it” that one time you go snowboarding and it dumps snow. like 4” or 6+”? i know a few people that have had 2wd truck and got snowed in. because when the wear on the slops it snowed so much that the truck was stuck where it was parked. also even in light snow 4wd offers more control of the truck. more wight on the front. i have had my front tires not want to turn like i wanted. very light tap of the gas and got it going where i wanted.

i also got it so i can get to family in western NY in winter if i need to.

I'd rather have it and not need it then not have it and need it. It will help with resale value later.

The "what if" situations is what has me debating. I don't NEED it,that's very clear. But will I use it enough over the next few Years to justify $3-4000 more  that's the million dollar question. ( its actually a $3k question lol) I don't want to regret it later on, but i don't want to waste $$ either.

more times than not. the first time you use it, it will pay for it’s self. also i have heard tire chains can cause damage if they break, or cause wheel damage. i would much rather have 4wd than use chains.

Get the 4x4. Seriously- you will use it more than you would imagine, and appreciate it when you "really" need it. I LOVE running my truck in 4 hi and lo- I'm used to all wheel drive vehicles, and just love how it handles. Get the 4wd and be stoked- instead of getting 2 and wondering how awesome 4wd is. If a small expense of going 4 is what you're worried about- it's less than a totalled vehicle caused by something you could have rallied in 4. just my .02

My bad. Sorry OP:eek:. Just tired of seeing this. I would get it though. Just in case you move. Or if you want to go do Serious OR. If you plan on just doing pre running you may not need it. Id hook up in the So-Cal member area and look what they are using.

Oh no no no... its all or nothing lol The Sport is the one feature I am 100% set on no matter what. THe entune and 4x4 is what is still up in the air. Im thinking just go for it all.

What would guys expect as a trade in on a 2009 DCSB 2wd Sport MGM with 43k miles and the JBL 6 disk in perfect condition (it will be returned to almost 100% stock parts including suspension and stereo and exhaust before trade)
KBB trade in = $21k best
KBB Private best = $24k best

I want at minimum $23,000 for it... think thats more that fair, no? :notsure:

lol. i was mostly just messing with you. i don’t see him using it to get to or from work or anything like i could(and prob you being in VA) but going snowboarding it would be nice like i said. i know some people that have been snowed in because of 2wd truck not getting out of the parking spot.

I guess. IMO i wouldn't pay that much for something that didn't have 4x4. On a different note, Save the money on the EN-TUNE. Use it for mods:D

AND GET 4X4. Then get a front locker with the money you saved from the Entune

Well, it looks like the overall agreement is get it. Atleast that helps me justify the purchase a little better. Now that kills my budget for getting Entune though :( Oh well Ill just suck it up an deal with it. Hopefully I get the $23 for the trade and it will be enough so I can give em another 2 or 3 thousand and I only need to finance about $8k. Payments would be like $200 for 36 months or something like that. I can handle that.
