I am redoing my A/C in my 96 Tacoma. I just replaced the compressor and now moving on to the accumulator and the expansion valve. For the accumulator do I need to add any Pag Oil or can I just install it right out of the box?

I've always just added the designated amount of pag oil to the compressor. Make sure to clean all the lines out before hooking up all the new components.

Most shop manuals I've followed have an oil quantity for each major component. Compressor, condenser, accumulator and evaporator.

On the 3 or 4 systems we tore into over the years, dear 'ole Dad's guidance was that when touching pieces in a full on refresh, it was best to spread the oil through the system as the manual called for.

They all worked well for years after our efforts.

So far I don't see anything 'special' about Toyota's AC, so I'd expect that principle to be the same.

I heard thru the years 2 ounces per component. I don't like lots of oil in system as is takes place of refridgerant. I would probably put an ounce in there because accumulator has sock in there that holds a bit of oil.

Alright thanks. I will probably throw an ounce in there then.

OP, can you say why you are replacing the expansion valve (any particular reason)? Thanks.

I replaced the expansion valve because it is recommended to replace those three parts at the same time to reduce the chances of any debris being caught in any of those parts. It isn't 100% necessary if the compressor wasn't fully grenades but since you are in there might as well do it. This was the part that took the least amount of time for me to swap out. just be careful when you replace it because my houses connecting to the expansion valve were original and so they were rather dry. When I went to get it charged they found that one of those hoses had been cracked and unfortunately was an expensive fix for me to have them do it.
