Hey guys, I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L and my A/C compressor went out. I took it to the shop today to have them evacuate my system and I am going to replace the compressor, condensor, expansion valve, and the small inline filter in the expansion valve tube. I was wondering, do I still need to flush my A/C lines before installing the new parts? I haven't disassembled anything yet because I wasn't sure if I should have it flushed before replacing the parts or what to do? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Lines should be inspected, especially if you see a black film inside the lines.

Thanks, so if there is some film or any debris, should I just shoot some solvent through the lines? From what I can tell I can replace the expansion valve from the engine compartment, would I need to shoot any cleaner down those hoses as well, or would the inline filter protect me at that point?

Is the tensioner and clutch okay? When mine went out I had to replace those too

Funny you said that, the serpentine belt fried on me one day shortly after the compressor went out. I was going to just bypass the a/c with a shorter belt thinking that was the pulley that seized, but it turned out my compressor was still spinning but the tensioner froze. I replaced the tensioner last week and got the truck rolling again. So far the clutch is ok.

Flush is if the compressor was allowed to fail and grenaded in a way it sent graphite in the system which can be checked for by inspecting while it is empty.

Take each line off and clean with brake cleaner, then blow out with compressed air...after its back together,I would Vacuum for about an Hour to get all the Moisture out.I dont know about Toyota, but Honda says to replace all the rubber lines if contaminated.

It’s me again guys. I am replacing everything today and so far I have my new condenser in and about to put my new compressor in. Do I need to add the PAG oil to the compressor and condenser now, or will the guys at the shop do that on Monday when they charge my system? The a/c compressor I bought said it came pre filled with oil….not sure what I should do? Thanks!

The oil in the compressor is just a prime for the compressor. The amount of PAG oil needed is a factor of the length of the hoses, the size of the condenser and evaporator, and the compressor. You should tell the shop that the compressor has a "prime" of PAG oil, and verify that the shop that charges the system adds the correct amount of PAG oil before they begin the work.
