Anyone have any suggestions for the little abs guards for a 2015?

I see a few options, o e plastic 1 metal but $100...wasn't sure if I missed any others on the market

Can leave you stranded and $200-$500 repair otherwise

    Thanks

I saw these the other day for the first time and was a little surprised, are they actually worth it and are a lot of people running them?

I didn't think it could leave you stranded, when I broke mine it just disabled ABS, no issues driving. I got a new 4 pack of chinese knock offs for just over 20 bucks and all has been good for a few months so far.

yeah those are the ones I saw on his instagram story. gotcha, I have an ABS off switch wired up that I use my 4hi with all the time in the winter so that def works, can't remember a time I've ever tried it with 4lo. Disables TC/VSC as well but that's what I intended it to do. I'll have to try it with 4lo sometime

right on. im still getting used to my new to me 2015 trd or, but i think 4h + hold down trac button disables vsc and trac in 4h (so id use this on fairly snowing conditions or offroad in 4h), a single push in 4h of button removes trac only, not vsc, but hold it for a few seconds and both turn off. i think it was when i switched to 4l i say ABS off light or something pop on, otherwise i think it stays on (but i could be wrong, wonder if 4h elec disabled gets rid of abs too, which would be good to know to limp home perhaps with broken abs sensor (even though wouldnt want to bind up 4h on dry pavement)

unreal systems in these things, 2wd push elec trac button i can get the auto lsd light on dash, and i have atrac button for 4l without locker, and then with rear locker i think (unless it is auto atrac when i put locker on haha)

i used to have 2004 4th gen 4runner with torsen center

sry got a few mins between tasks at my desk here

A lot of the damage reports I have seen are actually from the wires getting snagged and pulled out of the sensors which the guards don't protect from. Has anyome done anything to protect the wires?

    Not sure how.

ABS sensors are generally cheap, replaceable, and depending on vehicle may simply disable a shitty stock ABS system.

I have Archive ABS guards. Driving over a rock the shape of a traffic cone is unlikely.

i thought the abs system is tied to other drive systems, trac and vsc perhaps? i might be wrong though

    from TW:
Guys .. This is cheap insurance. I have been off-road with no issues, but driving home on the highway late the other night and a Possum comes out from the right just as I am passing … oh well keep her straight and move on right? Unfortunately the little fucker wrapped around my axle and broke the ABS cable at the hub. The dash lights up like a Xmas tree and I had to limp home another 20 miles. Go to dealer next day and not covered on warranty and $500 to reset everything and replace cable. Looking at the damage, it was all in the hub on a cheap plastic connector - the cable help up fine. Just purchased a pair of Black Anodized SNS.

good question, i actual like the idea of LCA skids not for the LCA themselves but because it helps keep salt away from front driveline and protects from sticks tear boots and whatnot, but i havent seen any plastic ones out there (maybe not a good idea because theyll rip off and posibly make matters worse, but i might run lca skids down the line to keep stuff away from brakes and cv

those look nice for rear protection, looks like you have to remove the line to install them...others people notch out or maybe the billets have a way around the lines

I know you can't shift in or out of 4wd or in/out of low with a broken abs sensor which could be problematic at times. Some people have made it sound like the engine also goes into low power limp mode but I am not sure if that is accurate or not.

In the rear the wire runs across the top of the axle and it seems that things have gotten kicked up and snagged that for some people. Thinking of making my own sensor covers and might have them clamp the wire or something atleast. Maybe some sort of guard along the wire as well that is securely clamped in place.

With the Archive guards, you unplug the connector from the sensor in the wheel bearing housing, install the guards, then plug in the connector.

If a sensor wire snags and breaks, you can do a wire repair in the field with a couple of crimp & seal connectors and wire stripper/crimper tool. You can buy a spare sensor wire harness from Rock Auto to splice into any of the four corners, if the wire broke at the connector.

Wiring damage is encountered quite frequently in my region. Two guys in my off-road club had wheel speed sensor wires broken. Third guy had branch poke over the T-case skid and break the actuator wiring. Fourth guy with 3rd gen had branch poke over the engine skid and break the oil level switch wiring.

Interesting, I have no issues switching in/out between 2 and 4hi with my ABS disabled. It's been a while since I installed it but my switch interrupts one of the ABS control unit wires, and throws I believe the same codes as if you were to have 4 broken sensors, so I'd be kinda surprised if having a broken sensor wouldn't let you change between them. Would be pretty easy to test if you just unplug one and try it. I have never noticed any "limp mode" in terms of engine or shifting or anything, just any ABS code = ABS is disabled since it senses a malfunction. This in turn disables TRAC and VSC since they rely on ABS system/wheel speed sensors.

It might be more of a 3rd gen or atleast year dependent issue then.

you do not have to remove a line. I put mine laying down on the street. It is a couple of bolts.

You did help me, thanks. Lost track of the convo but that one was just the rears if I remember right. I like the plastic 4 piece or billet 4 piece ones where the right rear or odd one you just run upside down, yet you get the more important front set. I'm def not dropping $200 on a set from multiple companies to cover all 4 perfectly
