    Hello all,
    I bought my 06 AC 4.0 in winter and never thought to try the AC. I know the truck had sat undriven for a while too. Of course, it gets hot and I had no cold air. Compressor wouldn't even engage due to low levels. I had the dealership charge and add dye. Blew cold for 2 weeks, then yesterday, my compressor seized. F@*&#

    I intend to replace the compressor, condenser (Which has dye on the fins) and clean the filter by the expansion valve.

    Rockauto has compressors for $350 +/- and condensers for $80. I expected the condenser to be much more. Which Compressor & Condensor should I buy?

    Compressors:

    CAD$256.20Add Part [IMG]

    DELPHI Part # CS20055 [IMG]

    CAD$376.52

    Condensers:

    TYC Part # 3393 [IMG] {#8846004210}
    [IMG] [IMG] Includes Brackets; Parallel Flow Condenser (PFC); W/ Receiver/Dryer; Core Size: 22 3/8" x 18 2/8" x 5/8"; Inlet Size: Block Fitting; Outlet Size: Block Fitting

    - Stocked in outlying warehouse--shipping delayed up to 1 business days
    CAD$72.77

    VARIOUS MFR Part # TO3030205 [IMG] {#8846004210}
    [IMG] [IMG]
    CAD$81.65

    One more thing. Where is the filter by the expansion valve? Is it inline? Should I buy the new expansion valve to get the new filter? I cannot seem to find mention of the filter in the FSM or Rockauto's catalog.

    On a side note... is it possible the dealership never added oil when they recharged? Or does the gas have it built in? Maybe they recharged the wrong gas?

    It seems odd that the compressor would genade right after being filled (presumably oiled) but I suppose if it sat dry for a long time, it is not unlikely. I know they will not run if the gas level is too low, so I know all the gas had not yet leaked out. Plus it was blowing cold at the time of failure.

    skip the new compressor, send yours out and have it rebuilt. will cost you half the amount and be good as new. most places will even guarantee it for a period.

    obviousley replace your condenser since its leaking, but also include a new drier receiver(this is a a must anytime the system is "open" with a major leak. if you intend on charging the system yourself, make sure you vacuum it first otherwise all this work will be in vain.

    The oil is separate and the dealer should have either recharged with an Refrigerant/Oil combo or added it in addition.

    If the system was discharged and recharged improperly (not vacuuming system prior to charging) or overcharged (very easy to do) or undercharged that will take out the compressor in no time flat.

    you also nailed it on the head with the wrong refrigerant type. the different types operate at different pressures so, wrong type wrong pressure ......:boom:

    I highly doubt the dealership has any refridgerant other than 134a on hand. Did the compressor itself seize, or the compressor clutch? Seized clutches are starting to sound like a common issue on these trucks, but is totally unrelated to refridgerant, oil, or anything else internal.

    As for a filter, thats the receiver/dryer.

    Just finished this repair 4 days ago. Pop off the serpentine belt and try spinning the compressor (not the pully) If your lucky the clutch just gave way. If the compressor actually locked up it makes the repair a little more detailed. (complete flush required) If you are going to do the repair yourself use FSM for torque specs / diagrams and a Chilton's for the procedure. It's a straight forward repair. If you have any questions just PM me and I'll try to help you out.

    Best to You,

    The compressor in my truck went two weeks after the dealership ran dye through the system, this was part of a A/C system check special. Of course the dealership swore on a stack of bibles that this was purely a coincidence, like they aren't going to hell anyway though... :devil:

    Anyway the compressor was replaced under warranty, I had purchased an extended one. According to the invoice, the Toyota OEM compressor cost over $2000!

    Two points here. First the dealership absolutely could have fucked up your A/C, mine worked perfectly until they did a leak check as part of that service special. The second is don't even bother checking on the price of a OEM compressor, that was $2000 back in 2009!

    On the plus side, they fixed it right after raping the warranty company out of two grand. It actually seems to blow cooler than it did when the truck was new, and even then it was a good A/C system! :headbang:
