Ok I guess I'm crazy. 2019 Tacoma Sport, 6-cyl, 6AT transmission everything is stock no add-ons to electronics or engine. Just had it to the dealership for the 3rd time in 3 months for acceleration and shifting issues.

First visit I was told there was acceleration error code on the computer that they cleared, give it a week to recalibrate. Second visit no issues found. Third visit paperwork says no issues found. The service tech told me it was the computer trying to maximize fuel efficiency while trying to provide acceleration at the same time so it is fighting each other. He also said the engine is not strong enough for this truck.

My issues are, most noticeable at about 40mph when I accelerate to pass it really hesitates, bucks and most times will hit 5k rpm sometimes almost redline before it shifts. On a recent trip through the hills of KY it would constantly run high rpm's before shifting up or down as needed.

I traded a 2008 exact same truck for this 2019 and that baby would burn the tires, get up and go in a heartbeat. Difference being the electronic acceleration in the 2019. Is there anything I can do to fix this short of trading trucks? I would love to have a regional manager from Toyota come take it for a spin and tell me with a straight face that there is nothing wrong. The local dealership is not going to be of any help.

Make sure you have the latest TSB’s and then if you are not happy, get a Shift Sense Pro. The engine is plenty strong for this truck, but the transmission wants to stay in a gear not suitable for conditions. The SSP controls shift points just as you would if shifting manually.

I can almost guarantee that you are on an early ECU calibration from the factory, either 04B30 or 04B31. The TSB referenced above will get you to 04B33 and you will be smiling again. There is an ecu update thread with instructions on how to do it yourself since your dealership sounds worthless.
If you want more than that, it’s time to tune that truck. Lots of threads about that.

I tried the shift sense pro (SSP) and it helped BUT still not right you won't be happy take that money and put it towards vftune, it's the only thing that helped me/others. I'm currently running @PapaRee Kruiser 4.0 Truck drives the way IT SHOULD!! You can PM him if you have other questions or concerns. Here is where the tune and AT's is talked about.

Best gen tuning and BS. More BS than tuning. | Tacoma World

P.S. I am NOT Affiliated with either, I spent $180 on SSP, $2500 on regear, and $650 on the tune kit/tunes chasing this pain in the A$$. If I was to do it again (especially if you stay stock) only do the tune! I like others am heavy with a little bigger tires so regear and Kruiser 4.0 tune was needed for me.

First and foremost, find another dealer with a good rep. This poor guy checking your vehicle is clearly lost and has no clue as to what is going on.

    Good luck

Skip sprint boosters/pedal commander/shift sense pro, those are bandaid fixes. Go OVTune and enjoy driving your truck for once. Been running OVTune for 3 years now, and I am very satisfied.

yeah im with you, got the shift sense 6 months ago, i like that it keeps the truck from gear hunting down the highway but leaves a lot to be desired, planning on a tune

Take the above advice on the factory ECU tune update before spending money on ovtune, kdmax tune, or any Brittney Spears Autotuned song.
Then if not happy look at these other options.

Going over hills try running in S mode and select the gear you want it to limit at to minimize automatic shifting up and down.

Also welcome on owning a taco. My 18 shifts so hard the whole truck shudders and shifts constantly. Plus the input lag in throttle response is awful. Anytime I have to drive over 55 I hope someone totals it cause it feels that bad. Least you have a factory option to update the trans. Free and couldn't be worse

Are you sure you are on 04A61? TSB-0013-19. If so, tune it. It solves all those issues and does it very well.

With the latest tsb software upgrade, the transmission should behave like any other normal one. My 2020 was done from the get go, so i have no experience how they preformed before that. Only issue i noticed when the truck was very new with hardly no miles, the transmission was clueless till it learned my driving habits. At 11k plus miles, its a very happy truck now.

So far 5k and no issues at all with the truck shifting. Love it, lots of tork when needed for passing etc but does not burn rubber though as I never really tried to lol.

Contact your local KDMax tuner.....For roughly $300 that truck will drive/perform like it should've when it left the dealers lot day 1.

Idk, if i nail my truck from a dead stop, it'll squeal the tires nearly as bad as my tundra did, and that had a v8. Sometimes i need to take it easier on these rabbit stop light starts. :D
