adding power door locks

Thanks go to @ProfHobbit. I'm thinking to add power door locks to my base Tacoma. I'm ignorant about wire things. So here comes a couple of questions while waiting for the parts.

1. Power source. Either way below should be ok, right?
---add a fuse to "DR LCK 20A".
---tap to "1A" 6 based on J/B inner circuit.




2. If I want the honk on lock, I just need to tap to "1I" 22 and "1C" 10? The kit I bought has two leads for parking light. Can I use them for horn? If not, where are the parking lights numbers on the figure below?

There is a LOT of stuff to the factory power door locks. Just some of it is circuitry that allows the body ECU to unlock the doors if you try to lock them manually or with the switch, while the key is in the ignition. Also, there are switches in the door lock cylinders that allow you to unlock all the doors when you turn the key, and there's the door control receiver that interfaces with the body ECU. Trying to add all that stuff would be a nightmare. You would be better off just buying an aftermarket keyless entry system and following the directions.

I would be very interested in your experience with adding the aftermarket kit. I am looking to do the same thing to my 2009 Taco base. TIA!

 

I just installed the aftermarket kit from installgear on my 2008 AC tacoma. It is amazing now having remote lock capability. It was very easy, took about 4hrs cause i am a perfectionist. The only thing i cant figure out, is how to or where to tap parking lights. All the parts are well made and expect the system to last a while.

Just had this mod done last month. I know I'm lazy. Just thought to share my experience here. Hopefully somebody may find it helpful.

I don't buy the cable holder kit. Instead I bought a tube from ace hardware online (pick-up instore)

then, I cut about a 5 inch piece, bend / flatten out the end, and drill a 1/16" hole in the end.

 

remove the door panel. Then, I slide in a flat head screwdriver to push the tab in the direction shown in the arrow in the pic below to pull off the lock unit. Then put the tube in

 

then followed the discussion in the link provided by iitywygms. Just install the actuator on the door and connect with the tube. It's pretty straightforward.

Power source: I used "DRLOCK (20A)" indicated in the 1st post.

 

Ground: I used the kick plate bracket bolt.

 

I changed my mind. Instead of using the honk, I decided to activate the parking light.

Parking light positive is the No. 10 in "1D" (the first post)

 

Parking light negative is in the turn signal harness on the steering column.
