The air conditioner on my 99 Tacoma Prerunner makes a loud, almost roaring sound when I turn it on. I believe there are 3-4 different power setting on it, for how hard it blows. The velocity of the fan doesn't change through the first three settings, but when I put it on the highest setting, it blows hard and really loud, but it doesn't blow cool air. I've remove the blower fan from its housing under the glove compartment and turned it on while it was still connected, and it seemed to work just fine...no loud noise, but when I put it back in the housing I still have the same issues. Any advice on what the actually problem could be?

I too am having an issue with my AC. I have an 09 PreRunner sr5 v6. The issue is that when I turn the AC on in any of the first three settings the AC does not seem to blow at all until I put it on full blast. While I'm driving it will start to work on the lower settings but then will stop blowing and start back up after a short time. It seems to always work on full blast. Has anyone else had this issue? I've had plenty of vehicles that I have tinkered with but this is my first tacoma. Thanks for any input.

Look for the blower fix on this site. There is a resistor pack that goes bad.

Dragons Taco is correct it is a known problem and there is a TSB resistor. However, before you dig out the resistor check the equally common defect in its connector. Disconnect the connector and look for a burnt or discolored look around the female connector in the center two terminals.
