Are their any alignment marks on the driveshaft? I installed a OME lift last weekend and the driveshaft separated from the rear axel while installing the springs. I didn't mark the driveshaft when it separated so I'm not sure how it was set. I put it back together based on the alignment of the knuckles and there's a slight vibration around 50mph. It's only noticeable to me since I drive it everyday. I've removed the rear portion of the driveshaft 5 times to realign and still no luck, still vibrates. Should I remove the entire DS and align it that way, maybe I'm off due to the angle while it's mounted.

    At input appreciated.

    Thanks

Thank you. I'll drop the entire line and make sure it's straight, I think I'm off by just a little. Hard to align laying on your back with the front stI'll attached

The vibes possibly could be coming from the u-joints in the driveline with the new angle they're running from the lift. Just something to keep in mind.

As mechanicjon said, there isn't any driveshaft marks for alignment. You maybe experiencing early signs of u-joint failure. Just go back over everything to be sure. Once everything is in place, wiggle your driveshaft back and forth. If there is a lot of play, then a u-joint is bad.

The DS is tight, doesn't move when I try to wiggle it. I'll work on it this evening and if the problem isn't fixed, I'll take it to have the DS looked at and rebalanced. Any issues with driving it now?

You'll be fine driving it as long as it doesn't proceed to worsen. Just take it to get it looked at as soon as you can.

Thanks for all the input. This is my first Taco. I've had FJs, LC, and a Tundra. I'm glad I found this amazing resource.

Put a few washers between the carrier bearing and the frame.

    You need to:
    1. pull the rear u-joint back off the pinion shaft and turn the pinion shaft a quarter turn
    2. put it all back together
    3. take it for drive
Keep doing 1, 2, and 3 until the vibration is gone.
As you found out, it is very important to mark the driveshaft before removing it. I can tell you from experience.......I have done what you did many times until I started marking the driveshaft and putting it exactly back the way it came out.

When I did my clutch about a month ago there actually was a yellow witness mark on the rear part of the drive shaft. We aligned that putting it back in, but didn't mark anything else, and I have the same type of vibration now with no lift. Haven't gotten around to taking it back off and messing with it yet, like you said, it's very slight and only noticeable to the driver really

Do you think this would be required with a 3"

I forgot to mention, I've removed/realigned and reinstalled the pinion shaft 5 times. The current result has given me the least amount of vibration.

Did you have vibrations before the washers were installed?

The drive shaft must be completely removed to test the u-joints. You can't just shake it while it's connected to the truck. You need to install the space lift on the center carrier as mentioned and also install a rear axle shim if you want to completely eliminate vibrations and associated problems. One or the other should be fine for under 3" of lift.

I am installing a carrier bearing drop on mine tomorrow with a 3 inch Toytec lift, I have a little shudder I'm hoping to fix it. One and I could only find it from one place out of Canada.
