Hey all. So I’ve decided to upgrade the alternator on my 3RZ after seeing that it’s a fairly easy and cheap change, but have run into a snag. The connector on the rear of my replacement unit looks a bit different than what I’ve seen others use and I’m not sure which terminals I should be connecting.

I bought the Denso 100211-6310 from a 94 Jaguar XJ6, and want to make an adapter harness to plug into the factory wiring. Below is the back of the new alternator as I received it.IMG_3021.jpg

Does anyone have wiring diagrams for the factory unit and/or the one from the Jaguar? Or has anyone done this exact swap? I’m thinking of buying something like this and modifying as needed.IMG_3034.png

    WOW
    Anything can be done!

    Q :
How many pins are there on stock alt?
(Same pigtail as the round male 3 pin picture)

The stock alt is a 3 pin that should match the grey side of the connector I have pictured.

This Jag alternator is supposed to be a direct fit and fairly easy to connect, I just need to see what exactly needs to be connected.

Awesome! So I just bought the harness I listed above, should get here in the middle of the week.

Looks like I’ll just need to connect the red and yellow cables and then I can snip the 3rd cable in the harness.

Oddly enough, my truck already came with a 120A breaker instead of the 80A everyone else mentions, so I’m probably just going to leave all of that alone.

I’ll report back after the install. Thanks!

what do you mean by "snip the 3rd cable in the harness"?

The alt has 3 wires plus the large power cable. All of these should be connected.

The post that you linked to in your build mentions only connecting the 2 parallel blades on the round connector.

I see you connected all 3 in your build though.

The white wire is used, despite what that other thread says. The white wire is your ALT-S wire for sensing voltage.

Gotcha. Wonder how the other guy got away with it…

In any case, I’ll connect all 3 when I get the harness delivered. Thanks!

So I finally got the alternator installed…and it was a success!

For wiring, all I had to do was swap the pin locations for the green and white cable on the adapter that I bought, and it plugged right into the stock harness.

Of note, I did end up having to replace my belt with a longer one to get the new alternator in. I went with a 35.5” belt vs the 34” stock one. Slightly annoying, but a few micro-cracks were starting to show, so replacement was due soon anyway.

Voltage, according to my Scangauge, seems to be a bit higher, but I will need to drive the truck more and under more conditions to really tell.

I did have a slight scare during all of this. After reconnecting the battery and going for my first startup, the alternator clicked once and then I lost pretty much all power, not even the interior light would illuminate. At that point I assumed something was connected incorrectly and that I just toasted my truck. Luckily, a quick trip to Autozone revealed that my battery just decided to brick itself at that moment.
