I am in no ways an audio or electrical genius but I did manage to put a nice stereo in my truck over a year ago. All was great for over a year, no problems at all. Now my sub is not working. Was driving to work listening at a normal volume and I noticed a crackling kind of noise coming from the sub area for a minute or two and then the sub quit. I haven't had a chance to go out and mess with it too much yet. I did check the power light on the amp and it is still lit up green indicating all is well, could the amp be shot and still have the green light on? Just looking for advice of what obvious things to look at and how to test it out before I get too involved. Going to try a different amp and check all connections if it ever stops raining here. FYI amp is a mono 500 watt kicker dx and sub is a image dynamics idq10. Thanks.

Man, that's the 2nd ID I've heard about taking a dump today...and strangely a somewhat similar story. If you haven't checked all your connections, that's the first thing...behind the head unit and at the amp. Not much sense speculating 'till that's done. Sounds like you know your next couple steps though. That's what I'd do - check all the components individually. Hopefully you just have a loose patch/power/ground cable somewhere. Good luck either way!

Yes, the amp could be fried with the "light" being on. On higher end home amplifiers, there can be internal fuses on the output side. The user manual will specify if there is any user replaceable items. Although, auto amps are generally sealed.

IF its a green light chances are its ok. ID look at the sub connection terminals or the terminals connection cup if one is used. You may have fried your sub

I'd like to see a pic of where your gain setting is at on the amp.

I think it's set fine. Been this way a year and half with no issues and I've listened to it much louder than I did on the day it went out?

You might be clipping the sub and over time it took its toll on it. Bass boost is bad and I don't suggest using it unless you have an O-Scope that you can see if it's clipping. The gain may be a bit high as well but I'm not familiar with Kicker amps so it could be ok.

I would guess at this point your sub is dead. I would check the sub first and ditch the bass boost.

    This might help a bit.

Thanks. I'm gonna check that first. Would be bummed if this was shot, thought purchased a higher quality speaker although I understand it may be my fault. Let you know what I find.

You can take a rca to mini cable and plug it into the amp and then plug your cable into the phone. Play some music and if you get sound then you need to look at the source, line out if used or rca. If no sound then go to the sub. Unscrew the speaker wire from the amp and pop it with a battery. If no popping then the sub voice coil if blown/frozen or the connection on the speaker/box is bad. I do these trouble shooting methods daily to help isolate the problem. Helps get you a starting point

So I took a sub that I knew to be working and hooked it up and it works, looks like it is the speaker. To get the Idq out I have to take out the seats and I don't have the time right now, but will test the Idq when I can but that's probably the issue. So now I have a box built specifically for an Idq so I guess I'm stuck buying another one. Do any other subs have the same size? I know the Idq has a slightly smaller circumference than other 10" speakers. It seems like a highly regarded speaker, should I just get another? It may have been my fault anyways as I was running the bass boost a bit, didn't know any better I guess:facepalm:.

You know, I'm not sure. It was built by @Mr Marv, I would have to look back at my messages or maybe he will chime in. I found replacement cone kits for this speaker which would save me 100 bucks over purchasing a new speaker. Is that what I would need or would I have to get the speaker out to investigate further?
