Sorry if this has been asked before. I have a 2021 Tacoma and have been using Android Auto. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note10+. I connect it via the OEM USB cable. I noticed the volume is very low playing music using Samsung music or MediaMonkey. MediaMonkey seems like the volume is even lower.

Playing Sirius radio or bluetooth streaming the volume is higher and I don't have to crank the stereo above 25 just to hear it.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Also wanted to say the volume control on the phone does not control android auto which I think is weird. Is this by design?

You are correct and it's very unusual.

I have a 2020 Rav4 with the JBL and Android Auto is louder than the other sources.
In my 2021 Tacoma its very quiet comparatively and I have to crank it to 30 to have a decent volume.

Something is off about their source level in the non-JBL stereo for sure.

I have an aftermarket radio with an iphone, so this may be completely useless, but I've found I have to go into my music app on my phone and turn off some kind of setting. Spotify has a setting called normalize music and apple music has some setting as well but that wouldn't help you. You may look on the phone's audio settings for something like that?

I had a Galaxy S9+ and now the new S21, I had a different problem on my JBL system. Bluetooth volume was super low and had to crank it up into the 40's to just really hear it. I installed a free app to manage volume in different apps and with different connections. When I finally started using Android Auto, the volume seams pretty equal with the radio and I need to have it 25 - 35 depending on whether the windows are open or closed. I listen to mostly Spotify, but sometimes Audible.

Out of curiosity, what is considered to be the proper position to have good volume on the scale? I'm not sure on the top of my head what the max volume is (60?) I'm not worried about the number, but more about switching to a different source and having it too loud.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am basing my optimal listening volume off of the Bluetooth streaming without Android Auto, radio and Sirius. With Bluetooth at least you can turn up the volume on your phone plus it is only turning up per Bluetooth device. That is what should be built into android auto on the phone. A separate volume control.

While listening to Sirius, I can hear it just fine under 20 and if I want it louder just above 20 will do. With Android Auto you can't control the volume from your phone like Bluetooth and I guess that is what I am trying to understand.

OP, did you ever solve this issue? I have the same problem on my 2021 TRD Sport. Volume and quality are good for radio, satellite and bluetooth streaming but the sound goes flat and has no bass when I switch to wired Android Auto.

No, I did not. I figured it is an Android Auto problem. I just turn up the volume if I need to.

I have a Samsung s20 plus. And my phone can control the audio when plugged in. I always make sure the media output volume on my phone is all the way up, then use the truck controls to control overall volume.

Damn... I was really hoping someone found a fix for this. It's been a problem since I picked up my 2021 back in August.

Not in our 2020 Tacoma, but I have a very similar issue in our 2021 Rav4 XLE premium(which is basically the same headunit as the Tacoma). Sirius is fine, has expected bass, treble, etc., but as soon as you try to stream via Android Auto the bass and treble go completely flat and the sound is totally anemic. You can mess around with the bass and treble in the settings, but there is virtually no change in the sound coming from the speakers. When the phone is disconnected, the flat sound is still present regardless of what input you're listening to. The only way to "reset" the sound is to do a factory reset on the unit. After that, the sound is normal again until you connect Android Auto.

I've googled the issue and looked here and on rav4world, this is the first I've read of someone else having the same issue. Maybe it's a 2021 specific problem? The Rav is going to the dealership soon, I intend to have it looked at. I'll let you know if I get anywhere...

My 2020 has horrible bass with AA. I stopped using it because Bluetooth comes through significantly better.

Weird, my 2020 has no issues at all with Android Auto that I've noticed so far... hopefully there is a fix for you out there somewhere

Eh, Bluetooth is more convenient anyways. No fumbling with cables or anything. Wireless AA was nice, but with the volume having to be cranked up higher, I just abandoned it.

My wife might have solved this audio issue for me. I use Amazon Music and had the EQ in the app set to my listening preferences. I also had the EQ in the phone settings set to my listening preferences. It seems like the 2 EQ's were fighting each other. I set the EQ in the phone settings to 'normal' and use only the EQ in Amazon Music. This has resulted in better sound quality while streaming Amazon Music via Android Auto.

I may give that a shot. Haven't been using AA because of this issue.

Haven't tested yet, but thanks for the reminder!

    Edit:
Just checked YTM and the equalizer settings go to the phones equalizer. So no differences there...
