Another noobie question

Hey guys, I'm driving a new to me 2015 Tacoma. It's the standard sr5 with the smaller tires. Do I need to lift it to get better ground clearance or do I just need to get larger tires? Not looking to go crazy high just more like taking it to pre runner height. Thanks for any info. Cheers!

 

Tons of info here, but the short of it is...

For TRUE ground clearance, you need bigger tires. To fit bigger tires (depending on how big you wanna go) you may need to lift the truck. TW has all the "What's the biggest tire I can fit on a _____ with _____?" answers you'll need.

While lifting alone can give you better approach, departure, and break over angles...your diff will be the same distance to the ground. Bigger wheels and/or tires will get that diff up higher.

 

prerunner height is more than just tires

means all new front suspension/shocks and all new rear suspension/shocks

 

So my 2015 tacoma only has 5 lug wheels. Is it possible for me to get larger rims and tires (16's or 17's) to raise it a bit and give it a better stance? I love the truck so far but would like it to be a bit higher and with larger wheels. I was in the market for a pre runner but this truck only had 7k miles on it with plenty of bells and whistles and got it for an amazing price before the new year. Everything I'm reading is saying that I may not be able to increase the rims because of the brake calipers. I hate sounding picky but it would look so much better if it had a little beefier stance.

 

I know you can get larger wheels in 5 lug, but I don't have any experience with how that could interfere with the brakes. Are people saying the greater rotational mass is going to require stronger brakes? If it's an issue with where the brake calipers physically are, that usually limits how small of a rim you can get.

Like localhost said, to achieve the stance you're looking for, you're going to need a suspension upgrade as well.
