I'm looking at doing solar on my camping trailer also. Going to have some LED lights, 12v pump for sink, 12v fan for gf, and either 1500w or 2000w inverter. Going with mono panels, something around 200watts. Not sure what brand of panels. If anyone has a brand they like, I'd be interested in knowing what kind they have.

Pretty please do not spread anymore disinformation. Please research the facts or study up on the tech, before forming an option on it or throwing out facts that aren't reality.

I'm not trying to be a dick. But I'd rather not see china flonder their bullshit products that'd end this industry.

As a supplemental power source for devices that only need a 12VDC trickle charge solar is ok for a truck/trailer. Every little bit helps. It's up to you to decide if the bang for the buck is there.

This site here has a lot of solar options you might want to look into: http://www.earthtechproducts.com/flexible-solar-panels---portable-solar-battery-chargers.html

If you're way off the grid for a few days you'll still need a generator and fuel cans and propane anyway, so the added expense of solar is up to you.

ok dude, lets go back and read a bit here.

    1. YES, it appears i was incorrect about the operating voltage of my fathers home solar. the open circuit voltage of his panel is 10vdc higher than this 12v panel from gp. that pretty much puts it at 30vdc, right? im no solar expert, which is why i started this in the first place.

    2. you theorized (right? probably means you dont fucking know, right?) that a 30vdc VEHICHLE MOUNTED panel would have to be SIX FEET LONG AND THREE FEET WIDE. and would probably see half efficiency. please correct me if i have errored in directly copying and pasting this for you. why would i want a 6ft 255W panel operating at half capacity when i can get a 4' (OH MY GOD MADE IN CANADA) panel that actually fits where i want it to fit? if it zips directly into my 12vdc system in the truck, fits in the space i need it, and even operates at 75%.. SIGN ME UP, BRO. if i cant fit a panel on my truck, it doesnt matter who made it of how efficient it is.. its worthless.

    3. you are, in fact, being a dick. insisting that 30vdc is the way to go in the world of solar -- which ill grant you, may the best choice when installing home solar, i havent gotten into home stuff yet. since when do i have an open 6'x3' spot to mount anything on my truck? my truck bed is barely that long. THIS IS NOT PRACTICAL. and by saying so, i am not spreading disinformation. until someone creates and markets a 30vdc system that is the same size as this gp flex panel that is being manufactured and marketed to: YES, a niche market --which we are talking about, if you didnt notice 12VDC SYSTEMS WILL RULE. this is not speculation, a six foot solar panel is not practical on a toyota tacoma.

again, i WAS incorrect about the voltage of my fathers panels. though i promise he has indeed created 10.5MWh off 30 panels in rochester ny. and frankly if you dont believe that you can blow it out your ass.

thank you for the link, ill certainly look into it. im trying to avoid the generator route. while itll be plenty useful, im just trying to avoid it while i still can. i dont run THAT much electrical stuff that i feel i need it... im not even sure i really need the solar at this point, but man i would feel real stupid getting stranded somewhere because i let a fridge and a few lights here and there kill my battery. i like the idea of just being able to mount the solar and basically forget its there. less fuel consumption over time would be great as well.... buuuuut we all know where our trucks stand when it comes to that.

im a recreational long distance runner, i have no desire to find out what it means to have to travel significant distance on foot out of necessity. and if my wife starts nagging....

edit i have seen those before! i thought they were really cool at the time but forgot all about them because i was just daydreaming about solar at the time. any experience with them in operation?

everyone keeps saying mono panels over poly.

    anyone know why?

this also sounds a bit like the set up ill end up having... minus the trailer. im trying to keep it all on four wheels.

Mono panels are more efficient than poly panels. More bang for space.

Haha. Got past the first paragraph there, and equated onto your non-knowledge from previous info you listed here onto that.

    Then read the rest... :D

You don't now what the fuck you're talking about and you're a dipshit at that. You must be a peach to work with on latrine duty, in Afygan securing the oil interests.

    And that's being a dick.

It's true, I single handedly created the whole BP solar panel debacle.
