    Used on Mazda 6 as an option. Fuel efficiency gain of 0.8L per 100km.

    i would have hoped ALL the comments were about this. not whats better or worse than solar (nukes! nukes! nukes!) but what we can reasonably do with the equipment readily available on the market. im still VERY curious on JLee's experiences to come with his panels.

    You know what they say. Waste not want not.

    If you waste sun on inefficient PV cells, but they still accomplish the job, then what are you really wasting?

    NOTHING, cause the sun is going to burn regardless.....or so I have heard. :notsure:

    A friend of mine's wife is a scientist working on better PV cells to use more of the available wavelengths from the sunlight. We will see solar to electricity conversion increase in its efficiency.

    No, not in my work (wish we would get into mobility sites, the more remote the better!) but in Amateur radio repeater sites, most are run by solar. The challenge is the rime ice build-up in the winter.

    One of our G.E. wind turbines perhaps?
    They used to have an entire bay dedicated to building the gearboxes here at the plant. They moved the operation offsite, I believe downtown somewhere.
    Or possibly moved the entire operation to our main plant in pensacola, FL.

    See, you just are not getting the point I have been trying to make either. Yes, a generator is great, sure it is fast and powerful. BUT it requires fuel, which A: is not a renewable fuel source, and B: requires that you bring the fuel with you, and once you run OUT of said fuel, that generator is nothing but a paperweight. Solar panels will put out as long as you have available sunlight. Sure, it's not a powerhouse, but the idea here is to supply sufficient enough power to run camp lights and maintain a battery for perhaps an ARB fridge or the like. I am building my setup based on requiring the LEAST amount of things to be packed in and packed out. The panels that I have in my design will put out about 5 amps of current with 80% direct light. Pretty efficient for what I need when I have 4 panels. That is 20 amps of available current with 80% light exposure. Hell, I can charge a truck's dead battery enough to start the truck after 6 hours of exposure. So yeah, it is worth it to me over packing a generator (that can fail) and extra fuel for it. Go ahead and pack in your generator, I'm not telling you not to. But don't go telling US what we can, can't, should, or shouldn't do with our own trucks.
