Thank you. This is really the truck I wanted in 2007 when only silver was available. A few new changes:

Bull bar/Nerf bars added (should have waited on the front bull bar as now I want something else like ARB or the other):

Also added bed and tailgate liner while having a Orange Shandy.

 

Nice truck. what type of toytec are you looking at? I have the BOSS lift from toytec. Is readylift just a spacer lift?

Glad you asked. I intend to do some fun off-roading but not into extreme mudding/rock climbing. Haul stuff with a 600lb trailer (loads up to 1,500lbs) and drive from Alabama with the trailer to Wyoming/Colorado outback for hunting. I am somewhat new at this and have the following questions:

- Lots of discussion regarding vibration at variousspeeds. Will there be shake or vibration issues? Are some lifts at Toytecbetter at resolving this?

- Do other add-ons such as off-road bumpers/armor affect what lift your want to get as well as the vibration issue?

- Should I put my aftermarket bumpers on first (have narrowed it down to Shrockworks, Fabfours, CBI with a winch on the front) and then the lifts?

Dumb question probably but gotta ask:

- Would putting a long travel kit on now with existingtires and setup be the wrong way to go for now if I wanted to put on bigger tires later?

Would appreciate any recommendations/suggestions on what anappropriate lift kit would be.

I'm pretty much a noob here myself, but I'll answer what I can.


I haven't had any vibration issues with my lift.


The BOSS and the Ultimate Lift Kits are preassembled coilovers, and I don't think there is an option to use a stiffer spring. I know for OME people recommend a different spring for heavy off-road bumpers. I think you'll be fine with a coilover kit with bumpers. If you go OME, you'll need to do more research on the springs.


I would do the lift first and then bumpers.


It don't know anything about long travel, but that doesn't sound like something you'd need.

 

I sent the following to CBI today (like their stuff all around). Will let you know what they come back with.

Please recommend a lift kit. I have looked at a lot online and researched all over the Tacoma Nation forum but still somewhat in the dark as to what would be a good fit for what I want to install on my truck and my intended uses which is moderate off-road activity (mostly camping out in boonies, hunting trips to Colorado/Wyoming from Alabama, and use a 600lb trailer to haul camping gear) but not extreme rock climbing or mudding. I would also like the capability to add bigger tires later on without changing out the installed lift system. I would also like to keep the MPGs up but know that is a trade-off when adding on this type of gear. What I don’t want is problems with my transmission/differential, etc. When I talked with Toyota service guys about installing a lift they said there was no problems with the warranty but they did state there could be issues at any point (25K, 100K, 300K, etc). I have also read in forums where vibration and other issues have arose. I want to avoid all that of course and just looking for a good match to the equipment I want to install and the intended activities.
I was really impressed with Ed’s customization (http://www.cbioffroadfab.com/photo-gallery/toyota-gallery/edwards-expedition-tacoma) especially since he is driving a long-bed, 4-door like mine. I am looking at the dual battery system not only for a refrigerator but also to run a shower pump for an Eco-5 propane shower system (need a bath after a few days to keep the elk happy).
I guess this might be enough to consider for now. I really like what I see with your company especially as I was able to find all the items I liked and did not have to pick and choose through a lot of different options. I would appreciate it if you could send me a reply with some answers/quotes, recommendations to consider, as well as some names/contact numbers to give you a call.

Im pretty much in the same boat as you. Now i cant talk from experience because my stuff is not on yet, but i would think an adjustable coilover would be good for you since you plan onadding a bumper and a winch down the road. Since you are not looking to get vibes just keep it under3inchs of lift and itwill lessen thechnces of vibes. However some people do get it from the factory so its really hit or miss.

I personlly went with old man emu, and im just adding tb bumpers an lift at the same time, so can get te heaveir coils the first time. I also stayed awy from spacers since i heard about the ruff ride and chance of breaking a shock.

I had many of the same concerns about spacers and blocks especially when it came to adding the bumpers although now am considering just adding the back bumper with a swingout as that is my primary objective in off-roading. Also searches for Icons on the forum revealed only one real negative comment (leaking shock) that was quickly resolved but no other real issues with the Icons. Expensive? Yes they are but am very thankful I can afford to buy them and don't want to spend more money later if what I get doesn't work out. Not belittling others that choose otherwise either and hope what they get works out for them.

 

For the lift kit, I would recommend OME. Not based on the fact that that is what I bought

New Leer shell with Wilderness kit installed today. Unfortunately the tool box did not fit because the rails of the Leer shell where it is fastened onto the truck rails sticks out too much. Back is also too tight to get it in and out. Back to the welders.

That said I really like the shell and the color is a great match.

 

Awsome. Look forward to seeing the lift go on. The topper looks sweet. If you still needed a box in the bed, you could always get a plano box or a UWS chest. Truck looks really good with the topper

Received notification the Wet Okoles shipped today. Only a few more days to worry about spilling coffee.

Icon Stage 3 will arrive from Demello's on Monday. Scheduled install for Thursday at Toyota. They estimated around $500-600 (including alignment) which is pretty fair. Called local 4-wheeler place here and they wanted $850 (excluding taxes of course). I figure I am capable of doing this install myself (I did the install and lowered my sons Chevy) but I want Toyota's more or less blessing on it and they have been a great dealership (no negatives after having two vehicles with them for 5 years) that I know they will stand behind their work.

 

New Wet Okoles installed. Like 'em as I spent 13 years in Hawaii with the Navy. Like McGrimm I used to hit Kaena Point and Peacock Flats but back then I had a Chevy Blazer. However, I started my fun in Guam with a Suzuki Samurai that we modded out with Toyota small truck springs in the front and shackles in the back. Got some tires dirt cheap after another guy wrecked his. God I wish I still had this classic little truck (kind of like my Grandads 57 Chevrolet Apache that I let go for $100 in a trade-in in the 60's).

Anyway, no one would recognize me now.

Coming down this vicious little cliff that was the only way out from back in the boonies on that side of the island. There is a 90 degree right turn just behind me.

Now for the Wet Okoles. The green wasn't as dark as I anticipated but the wife likes them and didn't ask how much they cost.







No more worries about spilling coffee or deer blood although I now figure I need a seat cover (old towels) for my seat covers.
