I changed the ATF according to the procedure, but forgot the step of running through gears 1-2-3 in addition to D-N-R-P. Any educated guesses as to whether or not the fluid level will be incorrect? I may have to run through the level process again, but thought I'd see if anyone has any knowledge.

Found out it DOES make a difference, although only by about 1/4 quart.

    You are correct .
When changing transmission fluid , it is necessary to charge all the gearing circuits with oil before checking the fluid . If you skip this step , passages inside the valve body could still be empty

Did a trans fluid change a couple weeks ago. Drained trans pan, removed the pan and removed old gasket and filter, made sure no metal shavings were in pan. Cleaned the pan, installed new gasket and filter. I made sure to save the old fluid so I would know how much came out, seemed pretty simple, 4 qts. out, 4 qts. back in. Wrong! After I filled with new fluid I started the truck and ran thru the gears several times, seemed fine. After about 3 days I noticed my truck acting strange, when coming to a stop and then accelerating the trans would slip and then hit in gear hard. I took in to trans shop and they said it was 2 qts. low. I added 2 more qts and now, so far, all is well. Not sure what I did wrong but lesson learned.

Different fluid temps have an effect, but if you drained 4 hot and put 4 cold in it would be overfilled so... :notsure:

Did you follow the procedure ?
Fortech created an excellent write up on how to properly check the fluid at home . If you are interested to see if your truck is low , click the link below and Remember that the engine has to be running when you check your fluid .
