My cousin in Ca just bought a 1999 4runner 4x4, 5spd, with the diff lock.
His dad is changing the trans oil and he said it had ATF in it, any reason a dealer or PO would do that?
My uncle is a mechanic so he should know the difference between gear oil and auto trans fluid.

Possibly, he did buy it from a used car dealer, maybe they did "maintenance" and changed the fluids and a idiot put ATF in.
