Got this build estimate and I have a few questions. I have a non Jbl 2016 double cab.
How important is having a output converter? will it help with sound quality??

    This is the plan...

hertz hi energy 6.5 components for front door
leaving the back door speakers in to be powered by head unit(I can upgrade later)
    JL 8inch ported box
JL XD500 3 channel to run front doors and sub

You are gong to need an output converter to get RCA outputs for your amp. As far as sound quality goes... that comes in with quality speakers, good RCA cables, and clean steady power from your amps to your speakers.

A popular choice is the LC6i, i prefer digital sound processors personally, but that is my opinion. Sound processors will not require you to install a converter as the DSP will do that for you. DSPs allow you to tune your music to your liking. Good sound is relevant to the person listening to it. Some people are happy with Walmart products, some people are only happy when they drop 10k on a system.

350w for your sub should be enough, i have 2 sundown audio sd3 10"s, they are rated for 500w RMS, i had them on only 300w each for a while and i was very pleased with their performance. I now have them at 600w each and they are very loud.

Good move on waiting for the rear door speaker upgrade. You dont hear them when the front ones are playing, and are really only heard by passengers in the back.

I have zero experience using hi-level speaker inputs directly into the amp but the JL amp accepts them. So technically you wouldn't need the output converter. I don't know if sound quality can suffer because of this or this way could be more susceptible to noise. Maybe some one can chime in. I've only ever done Aftermarket Headunit preamp out to amplifier and currently now have a miniDSP that accepts highlevel inputs from the factory radio.

JL offers the speaker to RCA connectors.
