I'm planning to do a transmission oil change on my Tacoma 2020 sr5. I'm not going to use the jumpers on the obd2 port because I'm going to use a scan tool, do I have to move the shift from neutral to drive several time or not? after move the shift from P,R,N,D,S? or just wait for the oil temperature get between 95F to 113F and then check the transmission oil level.im having seen any videos using scan tool.

Are you planning to use a scan tool to read the temp or use scanner active tests to jump TC and TE1?
To put the tranny in the temperature check mode, you have to move the stick from N to D a few time sand observe the dash for status of the shift position D

They recommend you shift through every gear for several seconds at least to fully circulate the fluid. Then you can read the temps however you like be that OBDII scanner, jumper, whatever

the oil level is easier to check on our macan than the Tacoma with the impossible to read oil level on the dipstick…

I thought it was my old eyes. Reading the dip stick is for me almost impossible.I run a paper towel down slowly until it really begins to wear the towel.

With the scan tool you won’t have to move it between N and D, that just activates the temp check mode. But as mentioned above may be worth going through the gears to get the fluid moving.

I know you are using a scan tool so this may not help. But my 2021 doesn’t need the jumpers to go in the temp check mode. Not sure if they started that in 2021 or when but it took me longer than it should to realize it.

The purpose to use the scanner is to connect above mentioned terminals, then move the stick between N And D. Once D disappears, disconnect terminals in the app. Turning terminals Off activates engine idle speed control mode. If idle fluctuates, you may not be able to set the level correctly.
Also, need to pint the tranny thermostat if installed and turn all electrical loads off
