To get this back on track, I understand the science/physics of the issue. I read the entire thread "No More Axle Wrap Mod" where numerous posters reported that the axle wrap was gone. I don't recall reading any posts where any of them reported it returning. I understand that the posters were actually saying that the "symptoms" were eliminated. In that regard I was wondering if I had done something wrong when I applied the fix. I also find it curious that I can't recall a post about axle wrap from anyone with a M/T truck. I know I asked if only A/T trucks suffer the issue. What I should have asked is if only A/T trucks have the symptoms of axle wrap. I am 74 years old & this is the first vehicle I have ever owned with A/T & I have owned quite a few. Thanks to those who answered the question of it doing harm. I plan to replace the leafs along with the rest of the suspension before going to Alaska next summer so that should take care of the problem. I just wanted to know if it needed fixing right away and if anyone knows why it seems more pronounced after the mod. Thanks

As I said above, it doesn't eliminate it, but it does reduce it.

You're essentially locking the leafs together at another location besides the axle U-bolts. That makes it so they can't slide against each other.

It can make your ride a bit worse depending on how far out you put the u-bolt, but it does work.

There is no difference in the physics of axle wrap between m/t and a/t.

That said, one possibility is that with a m/t you can vary the amount of pressure and clutch slippage. So you slip the clutch more and that gives the axle more time to twist under a softer load. I don't know if that makes sense, it makes sense in my head at least...

As for why it seems to have gotten worse for you, that's a mystery. Either you did it wrong (doesn't seem that easy to screw this mod up, so that's unlikely) or maybe this band-aid fix just doesn't work for your case.

Like putting a band-aid on an abdominal wound, band-aids don't always fix the problem.

No. The overload lead is not a working leaf spring. It’s purpose is when you load weight into the bed to stop the leaf from over flexing. If you flip it over it will just stiffen up the ride of the truck. You won’t like like it.

Cant seem to find a decent traction bar setup. Ideally id like to run a progressive soft rear leaf pack but have 0 wrap
