bad fm reception

So I have an aftermarket double din and a 12" sub. After re hooking it up today I realized I have terrible fm reception as compared to before. Anyone have any idea what it could be

 

Forgot to hook up the antenna to the deck or it came loose during install.

 

I checked that and it was good, i get like 3 channels that are good

 

What is the make/model of your double din?

I have a 2011 Tacoma and had a stereo shop add an amp, new front door speakers, and sub woofer. The amp is powering the front door speakers and the woofer.

Now I have this same issue. I took it back and they verified the antenna was connected, and reception was still bad. I verified that it is connected.

Does anyone have an idea???

I don't know if this happens but I guess it could. When I was into stero systems I was told to run my power cable to an amp on the opposite side of the vehicle than the audio cable because of possible interference (ie power cable down passenger side and audio cables down drivers side). Just like how in setting up computer networks in buildings, the network cable cannot be near the lights because the lights interfere with the signal across the cable. Maybe something is interfering with the signal travelling through the antenna cable.

 

Actually this makes sense! because my started acting up when i upgraded my RCA cables and ran them further back. Give it a try!

To see if noise is effecting the reception, I just went out and tried this with the motor running and not running and the reception was the same.

Also, the amp is under the drivers seat and of course, the antenna is on the passenger side.

 

Check your actual antenna.... often times they come loose.

Take an eraser and clean the contacts of the antenna plug into your radio as well....


Most likely though, your wires are crossing each other somewhere. Pay attention to the wires when you stuff the radio back in, maybe they power/ground is crossing the antenna right behind the deck. Its not a high current wire, but its possible. I would just go through and double check absolutely all connections.... make sure everything is insulated too.
