Battery Bad - Need recommendation

I’m in disbelief I have a bad battery after only 2 years on a new Tacoma but such is life.

Never left anything on, etc.

In a pinch - What are you guys running? I want to try and get something locally if I can.

I know Optimas are expensive and supposed to be good but Amazon buyers are saying theirs is bad after only a year!

Optimas have gone way down hill. Complete expensive crap now days. I've been pretty good running the Costco branded Interstates.

loving my 27f odyssey from batteries plus. If you go with 27f size get the 2nd gen battery tray, it fits perfectly


edit: i went for a northstar/x2 in my original order, but batteries plus offered an odyssey with the same 7yr warranty that the northstar/x2 provided. Works for me

 

Costco if you're a member.

 

Interstate batteries have the best warranty and you can warranty them in any state or canadian province if need be.

I wouldn't buy any fancy battery unless you need it.

 

Walmart $48. Will last 2 years+. Or spend $300+ on an AGM battery like a boss.

 

I'm outside 36K miles, I knew this wasn't an option unfortunately. :-/

 

Ha, funny thing got myself in a jam right before a trip in my LC, scrambled down to wally world and grabbed the cheapest thing on the shelf that would fit my truck. Back of my head was I will replace with something good when I got back. That silly cheap battery lasted 9yrs.

 

You're right. I did some contracting for Johnson Controls a few years ago and we upgraded their PCs at their Florence SC battery mfg plant - they literally roll high end batteries off the same line as the low end, and just sticker them differently.

I have never trusted high end batteries per say since then.

 

The wally world batteries are great. People that talk bad about them usually haven't had one. I killed one in the desert, left a light on. Truck wouldn't start. Waited overnight and it started right up. I've heard there are only a couple battery manufacturers in the world. Most batteries are rebranded same company.

 

I've literally seen cheap batteries built in the same plants as at the high end, people forget that many of these are just restickered and sold at a higher price.

 

Or a walmart special agm for 149. I like the lack of leaks.

They are restickered because they are different qualities

Not every item that rolls off a plant line is going to be built to max spec. Normally companies "bin" their products in situations like this. I'm not saying that's what Johnson did in your example, I'm just saying that's what smart companies do. So they can charge more for their "perfect" products

 

I hear ya, the Johnson Controls batteries were literally identical, and just stickered differently, I wanna say they were the gray and yellow optimas.

 

That could part of it but really it comes down to risk assessment imo.
Here’s a $100 battery but you have a 1.5 year warranty. Or here’s a $400 battery and you get a 5 year warranty. Imo you pay for an insurance the battery.

 

Or Walmart AGM, made by Johnson. Not as good, but good enough, and 1/2 the cost of an X2.

Yup and companies try to limit their risk typically by using their highest-tested products in those higher warranty brackets. A bit of testing at the factory and you get even more profit margin My experience in this realm is mostly with high-end tech honestly, I can totally believe it's random in some factories lmao
