I've got a v6 2013 dbl cab auto long bed , I loaded the bed with some dirt this week . Haven't actually calculated how much .

Would say alittle more then half way from the bottom on a 6ft bed .

And while driving the truck really didn't seem happy , and was sitting low in the rear .

Did I overload the thing or am I just a nervous nelly ?

It doesn't take much dirt to overload any truck.

Dirt is generally considered to be 1 ton per cubic yard for engineering purposes.
You were about halfway up in a 6ft bed, so we take 6ft x 4.5ft x 0.75 and you were at about 20 cubic feet. 2000/27*20=1481....

Ya... you had about 3/4 ton in a truck that is rated to carry only 1350 (including you and fuel).

Get a set of helper springs.I've accidentally loaded the bed with over 1500 lbs. Didnt even touch the bump stops over 27 miles home, handling and braking was great. Ive put 20,000 miles on since then, no issues with wheel seals.

I wouldnt make a habit of overloading it, but helper springs definately make a.difference (good ones, not the cheapies from Advance or Auto Zone).

Besides the leafs, does it hurt the trans and wheel bearings and etc much ?

How much is safe to carry ( And I mean realistically safe not just what the manual says )

    1350lbs as stated above ?

Trans is not an issue... these trucks can tow a couple of tons.
    Wheel bearings should be fine.

Main issue is handling. Overload the rear and the front end gets light, and keep in mind it's a 4000 pound truck and what it's going to do to power/handling/braking when you increase that by 25%.
