3 inch icon lift, dual exhaust, 17 inch pro comp rims, tinted tail lights, black badges, BHLM, T-Rex eye lids, 10" alpine type R sub, alpine deck, alpine amp, K&N CAI, icon UCA's, 2" AAL, 32" led light bar
i have a 3 inch spacer kit and now i completely regret getting it cause i dislike the ride on and off road. i now have the money to spoil myself a little and get a coilover kit (real 3 inch lift some say). so i was wondering what is some of the best out there, i have seen some that need the sway bar relocated and some that dont, and i would like to stay at 3 inch and not go over 4 inches. any recommendations?

A bunch of people LOVE the Icon CO. Icon gives you option of RR or no resi. Fox only comes with Resi's. Camburg have a large following, Sway-A-way (aka Stayaway) are an option. RadFlo's are starting to get a larger following the Tacoma world. They make great products as well

If do you do a search you will see many threads on these options

You are gonna HAVE to run new UCAs if you go with a 2.4 CO Corey

I dont mind it at all on the highway i have to say when you get to 60+ you wander a little bit on the road and about 70+ you wander a little more but nothing that i would say is not safe. when cornering the body like to roll more and is not as stiff and i like that personally. I havent talked to anyone that has removed there sway bar and looked back. The best thing you can do is pull a couple bolts of the sway bar drive for a day if you like it then remove it entirely if not simply but the bolts back.

I left my sway-bar on with my Icon COs. Handles great on and off road.

What rear leaf springs are you going to use?

Icons are usually more expensive for no reason. Get King or Fox from Downsouth Motorsports and you will get the best deal

I have the Fox 2.5 set at 2.5" with the factory UCA. Very happy with that set up. I took my sway bar off and threw it away. It definitely improves the ride over uneven terrain, and results in increased body roll on the street. Having driven high CG 4x4s all my life, the Tacoma drives like a dream with the bar removed. Whether you keep it is a personal decision.

Yes, but a Tacoma with no sway bar is still going to handle better than a Jeep with two. Does that mean nobody should ever drive a Jeep? A Tacoma with the bar intact does not handle avoidance manuevers as well as a Celica, so?? The point is, you have to drive whatever vehicle you own within it's limits and accept the fact that at some point every vehicle gives up. For that matter, adding larger tires, suspension lifts, and accessory weight also compromise the safety of the vehicle. Nobody ever frets over that

Having said that, I would never urge anyone to remove their bar, because they do need to understand that they have changed the handling characteristics of their truck. It will be better in some ways, worse in others. If you are not willing or not savvy enough to make intelligent adjustments to the way you drive, then the bar should stay.

It's also true that removing the bar is not in itself an irresponible act. No more so than running big tires. In fact I would argue that it has far less impact. It is not going to result in certain death.

If you drive a Yugo I think your defense is pretty weak :D. I understand what you saying, and I'm not discounting that. When you deal with laywers, the rules of sanity are out the window. They can argue anything. You can put new sights on a hand gun, and a lawyer would argue that you did that intending to eventually shoot someone with it. Where money gets involved like the Firestone thing, it really gets crazy.

I'm just trying to add a counterpoint and some perspective. There are millions of vehicles on the road that are modified in ways that make them less safe. In fact almost every modification you make has that effect. The truth is, you could be sued for any number of things. Even doing your own repairs could leave you vulnerable if someone thinks your work was substandard. Using non OEM parts could do it. In practice though, these occurances are very rare.

Oversized tires and wheels can drastically lengthen stopping distance, increase the probablility of roll over, and contribute to steering difficulties. When was the last time you heard of any suits over that?

Aftermarket bumpers can interfere with the intended operation of the airbag system. They can also increase damage to the vehicle you hit. That is especially true of high clearance bumpers.

Same story with lift kits, especially things like body lifts. I can assure you that if there was any potential for serious liability over these things, the shops and manufactures would be put out of business by the cost of insurance. Insurance companies maintain massive data bases so that they can assess risk when writing a policy.

Then there is the willful act of recklessness of driving wide tires on ice :D:D

I guess I'm just saying that if we decide to make our decisions based on fear of litigation, then we need to do it right and get ALL this aftermarket shit off our trucks. I don't understand why swaybars always get singled out for this, while other things get ignored

In any case, I'm not going to argue over this, cause I really don't care what people do. I just do my own thing. I'm just contributing some thoughts :)
