Bilstein 6112

It’s not a Cadillac. Only time I felt a cushy ride was in a Tacoma with front ride adjustable kings and the rear smoothie king shocks. That’s a lot of money for something I’m just taking trail riding and camping

 

That I am not sure I have only run digressive shocks on my taco and like the firmness while on the road for better on road handling. Also I am also armored, winched, and a long bed so I have some extra weight on the front to put the stiffer nature of a digressive to work. BattleKat posted a couple links to articles on shocks that are worth reading.

 

Even OME 88x line (minus 886) at 590lb spring rate is stiff for people without armor. A bigger shock with a heavier spring than stock will always make the front end more stiff, its then just a matter of what your butt feels in the seat because "Stiff" is going to be subjective to the driver. I'd look at a linear shock like a fox or kings if the 6112s are still too much for you on the street.

 

Thank you. I got these 6112/5160 almost brand new for $500 so I’m great full for what they are. Great suspension, especially for the price. But yeah, once they wear out, or start leaking, I will be probably going towards the 2.5” fox shocks. And most likely doing the 12” fox shock in the back.

Current suspension has about 35-40k miles on it. Still works flawless. Only issue is that my “eyelet” ?? Where the bolt and nut go thru in the front….that bushing is tearing a little. But I know we can replace it.

You sure? My understanding is they are not rebuildable. Run them to failure and replace.

 

There is a shop in San Diego that will rebuild them. They're not listed as rebuildable by Bilstein, but it can be done.

 

Damn thats about half the price I paid, I think I would deal with the stiffness for that price

Well… These 6112’s officially made me re-install my sway bar!

 

Almost a year later any issues having the 6112's set at the same level? Been thinking of this set-up as opposed to setting at 6/5 or 5/4.

 

With this setup do you have any rubbing?

 

I reinstalled the front factory mudflaps when I got my alignment. It does rub the driver's side mudflap a little when the wheel is pushed up while turning, but very mild and livable for me. "0" offset wheels and an alignment with 3.8° caster makes all the difference.

Well I’ve had to replace my cv axles about 3 months ago. The boots started rubbing and the wear was getting bad. I think it’s from running the 6/6 setting. Other than that they’ve been great

 

Interesting. Are you now running 5/5?

 

That's exactly why I went with 5/5 with a 1/4" spacer. You can see the boot rub line when I had it higher than 5/5.

For those of you with 6112s set at around 2" front lift AND with Icon RXTs (option 1-2), is anyone using 5100's? If so, are you using the regular or extended 5100's or the 5125's with a bump stop?

 

Getting ready to buy, a couple extra questions I didn't really think about:

In the rear, going for Icon RXT Option 1 and 5160...

• Am I limiting my droop with the shock length? Is there an issue if it maxes out on the shock, would I need straps?
• Do I need an extended brake line, or that spacer on the bracket?
• If I want to do the u-bolt flip kit, how do I know what bump stop spacers I need, if any? I assume Wheelers superbumps are the most popular for a reason, anything better out there?
