Bilstein 6112

Yup- after going over a bazillion things I trusted my gut and went to the 2nd notch.

The springs on the 4th notch had settled in some and the numbers last night were:
DF- 23 3/4"
PF- 23 1/2"

2nd notch after a quick drive around to settle the springs:
DF- 22 7/8"
PF- 22 5/8"

So each side dropped 7/8" by going down two notches. Looks like with the 650# springs each notch was good for 11.11mm.

Dropped to the 2nd notch and things are looking much better now. Going for an alignment soon.

 

Waiting at tire shop....parking lot is high at the front. Looks so much better.

 

Put on the front 6112s. Waiting for the rear 5125s and AAL from my buddy who's going Dakars. About .5" of bro lean which we can deal with for a week or two. Set at 5 of 5 notch.

Whats the consensus on whether to go w/ 1/4" spacer vs 6112 staggered setup to counter the Driver side lean?

 

I went with a spacer and still have some lean.

 

Me too, maybe 1/8". Not exactly the same because of different coils, but the TRD Pro/ TX Baja that uses these shocks have the driver side set on a clip higher than the passenger side for the Taco lean.

 

I have 1/4" Headatrong spacer and I have pretty much the same lift on both sides. I guess it worked but I may have a touch of the Taco lean out back with my Dakars even though it's hardly noticeable.

 

Just installed 6112 on the 3rd notch on my 4x4 access cab. Holy crap way to much lift. I was looking for 2 inches and got 3.5.

I have a slight vibe on the front driveline now. How much will these settle? Or should I look at dropping a couple notches. Kinda scared to adjust the notch.

Is the coil perch installed the correct way?

 

I got them pre assembled. Its settled down some. I'm at 2.75 inches now. Still higher than I intended.

 

Looks good. That is a lot of height.

 

4x4 or pre runner? That seems high even for Access cab if 4x4. On 3rd notch I was at 2", probably a shade under now. DC4WD.

 

I bet it would be the perfect height at the 2nd notch.

It looks correct but they really only install one way.

These things are hard to get right....I had heavier springs but actual lift numbers vary so much from truck to truck.

Yeah too much if he only wanted 2".

 

Thanks guys. Definitely higher than desired. I'll drive the other vehicle till I get this figured out to take it in for alignment. What would you guys suggest the correct method for getting them to the 2nd notch?

Jack up off lca to load the spring and use ratchet straps on spring? I kinda not feeling the love of taking them back off.

 

Crazy how much lift it gave him, eh?

 

I just tore my assemblies out. I managed to get them out by only removing six (6) bolts/nuts and not having to loosen the lower control arm cams.

I tried to adjust mine using a store bought spring compressor but that did not work so I had to bring them to a local shop who had a large wall mounted spring compressor. They compressed the springs (which allowed me to move the spring seat up) and then I adjusted the clip down. They were great and only charged me for time ($130/hr) which worked out to be 0.3 of an hour. It was well worth the cost and the short drive for me.

1) What notch # recommended for someone looking for maybe max 2" lift?

2) Any thoughts on my below current plan:
(For: 2016 3rd gen Tacoma, 4x4 OR/DC/LB)
Goal: A little firmer/plush/well-planted/controlled/confident ride vs stock Offroad ride which to me feels: (Floatyy/boaty/nose dive/body roll)

Thanks, taking it to a shop with a wall mounted compressor sounds like the smartest thing to do.

I wanted to be lazy and not take them out. Guess it's only about 2 hours of work to do that.

I wonder if my values are really high because I was measuring off the 9 year old could for the existing measurements. I'll take a tape to it when I get home and post the before and after numbers.

 

That would be so much easier but it literally took me, working alone, 35 minutes to tear out both sides. Your measurements may have been higher because of the old worn out parts.

 

My original measurement were:

Driver front:
20.5
After 23 with 1/4 inch spacer.

Passenger front:
20.0
After 23" no spacer.

3rd notch. On 265/70/16. Going to go one size bigger 265/75/16 when I replace this fall.
