BILSTEIN 8112 Adjustments

I have the Bilstein 8112 on my '22 DCLB and when I installed them i foolishly did not adjust them to my desired ride height ~ 2.5" and installed them at the factory setting so ~ 1.4" of lift but it really seems more like 1". Has anyone adjusted their pair and if so how much of a struggle was it lol and what was the best method to do so?

I did not adjust mine prior to install either. It was my understanding from both what the retailer said and from what Bilstein said on their literature on the 8112s that they come pre set to Bilstein's recommended ride height. For my truck, the 8112s were pre set at the highest setting within Bilstein's recommendations for my exact truck and sub model, which was 3/4" of exposed threads, giving 1 and 7/8" lift over my stock height (Ram 1500 Rebel, which comes at about an 1" lift over other stock Rams).

I have been having trouble with a very loud clunking noise the shocks make when going very slow (5-10mph) over bumps since I installed them a few months ago. Despite being within the ride height range recommendations from Bilstein, Bilstein advised I might not be in the correct zone for the shocks and recommended I lower them one setting. I spent the day doing that this past weekend, and it did not solve the issue.

 

What year is your truck? How many miles? Condition of body mounts? What UCA do you have?

 

2020 Ram 1500 Rebel, currently @45k miles, put the 8112s and 8100s suspension on at around 41k miles. Condition of body mounts are excellent. I put the Icon Delta Joint Tubular UCA on new with this setup a few months ago.

Trying to figure out whether this noise is normal for bypass shocks, as I understand bypass shocks do make SOME noise. I am further wondering whether extreme cold weather makes normal bypass shock noises louder.

YES and YES! I live at 7000' and see -20*f easily and I hear my front ZCs making more noise due to the viscosity of the fluid changing being super cold/thicker until they "warm up".

 

Dude, thank you! You're literally the first human being who has been able to give me feedback on these shocks and whether they're experiencing the same thing. I literally joined this forum to open up the guys I can communicate with on this, because it seemed these shocks are more popular with the Toyota guys. I am really just trying to determine whether the noise is normal, or if there's something wrong. Thankfully, it sounds like it is the former, not the latter.

I have noticed once I drive for a while and the fluid heats up a bit, the noise is not as loud.... but I do hear the clicking/banging noise when going 5-10mph no matter what. It just gets a lot louder when they're really cold.
