The part I purchased was made for my 2005 Tacoma. It's a Canadian part for the Tacoma. "Burnsville Toyota", out of Burnsville, Minnesota stocks them. Purchased it over the phone and they delivered it via UPS the following week. Works great for me thus far. I went to a Ace Hardware store and bought a timer for it. I set the timer to activate the heater about 3 hours before I need to go to work. google this dealership and give them a call and pose your question with them. The locat Toyota dealership near me only stocked the heater that inserts at a freeze plug. Too much work for me.

Thanks I'll have to call but I found this link but good only v6 not 2.7. I guess they don't make it for 2.7. http://trdparts4u.com/PD-00213-00900.aspx?MakeID=1

Someone was still looking for an oil pan heater, here's a website that offers them http://www.wolverineheater.com/index.shtml

They come in different shapes and sizes, measure the pan and purchase the appropriate shape/size.

Installation is easy, strip the paint off the pan were the heater sticks, clean thoroughly with alcohol, attach heater, seal with provided aluminumized RTV around the edge to prevent water contamination. I zip tied the cable around the frame and made sure it didn't interfere with any steering/suspension components, performed this mod on my ranger and F150. The F150 also has a block heater, when it's -40 the truck provides heat just a block away from the house.

I'm looking to install a block and oil pan heater on the Taco, just to damn cold right now. Maybe even a battery heater but it looks like the battery tray is plastic which is a no go.

Thanks for the tutorial. I have ordered #16 from Wolverine. Looking forward to no knocks in the AM and faster warm ups.

My dealer installed the block heater Friday and when I opened the hood I wasn't impressed with the cable routing. In hindsight I should've installed it myself. The service manager told me over the phone that they had the factory recommended routing for a 4-Runner and it should be about the same. However, once the cable was routed up from the back of the block they wormed it straight forward toward the front of the the engine compartment instead of off to the side away from the engine heat and around the drivers side by the battery. It took me a minute to find the plug end of the cable but when I did I was even less impressed. They routed it down the side of the radiator and across the front of the skid plate, ending up on the passenger side. They attached the plug end right to the skidplate. There's so many places where the unprotected cable can rub against metal edges I wouldn't give one season before there's a short. I thought about getting some plastic wire loom protector since the older versions of this heater have it, mine doesn't. There's only a heat shield for the first foot or so and then the cable is exposed, it doesn't look any different than a household electrical cord! I guess I'll be visitng the parts store and rerouting the cable myself. And it figures that the week before they installed the heater we had temps in the low teens again and now the temps look like they'll be above freezing until the fall.

Okay, done with the bitching, I'll be ready for frosty next winter now! Out of curiosity, can any of the Candian members tell me where the dealer routed thier cables?
