SoundmanCA on youtube reconed JL W7's on two separate occasions this past year, and showed most of the process - they came out great. For one of those, he took an old non-functional demo W7, and made it functional just by using a re-cone kit.

In my view, the most important steps are patiently surface prepping the adhesive surfaces, and having prior experience laying sticky beads of glue/epoxy evenly. Also, might want to look into how much the speaker manufacturer charges for refurb. If you are going to spend 10 hours labor on the thing, it might be worth just having the speaker manufacture refurbish it for <$200 (or cheaper). I had my 13TWV2 (damaged by my Alpine amp, not me) reconed by JL since that was my only option - its as good as new.

 

so the cone coil just floats in between the magnet? that why gotta put the cards around it evenly?

I think the parts the SoundMan bought were $250 for his JL W7. Dont remember if that was for both or one. Its a great video to watch as he bashes the crap out of JL.

 

Yes, the coil former sits inside the gap between the pole piece and the magnet. Typically the clearance is pretty tight and you want it perfect.
