Bought a 2019 TRD Sport a month ago and noticed the audio lags behind the video when connected via Bluetooth. I did some troubleshooting and research and came to the conclusion that it's the stereo, not my phone. More specifically the codec Toyota is using is causing the latency.

Has anyone else been able to fix this with an update to the stereo?

To qualify myself here, Google Pixel 3, Bluetooth data and cache cleared. I do not have this problem in my 2016 VW Golf R, never have. I have 3 different pairs of Bluetooth headphones that I use and never have this problem. Im not watching videos while I'm driving. My wife watches Netflix and I listen on our 400 mile drives.

Thanks for any info. Really enjoying this truck.

No idea, we don't watch videos while we drive.

My aftermarket Pioneer radio does stuff like this sometimes; The song duration thing will also freeze at precisely 42 seconds into the song almost every time when I have my iPod plugged in through the USB port. My Bluetooth will also randomly decide to not connect with my phone and I will have to shut the truck off and reboot the radio...

My boss has a 2015 Cadillac Escalade that I routinely take to the car wash for him, and when I plug my iPod or iPhone into the stereo system, the display on the radio will say it's playing one song when clearly another is playing.

Car stereos today, both factory and aftermarket, have more computing power than the systems in the first NASA spacecraft, and it is my opinion that because of this there will always be inevitable glitches and bugs.

I use an Iphone and have the occasional glitchy bullshit but i'm convinced its the phone because it did the same shit in my old truck. I've never tried watching movies in my Tacoma, I just listen to supersatan ultra darkdeath metal and spit goats blood on the vehicles next to me while i'm driving.
It kind of sounds like the smaller audio file is loading much faster than the video portion, have you tried it with a USB connection?

All of the Bluetooth headsets I have used over the years never did this, but my previous 2nd Gen taco, current 3rd Gen taco, and Oontz Bluetooth speakers all lag behind any video my phone is playing by almost a second. It's annoying when waiting in the vehicle watching something and it's not in sync. Doubly annoying because a friends $5 eBay chinese Bluetooth speakers don't lag at all when I tried them.

    Edit: using a Samsung S9+.

The latest BT version helps immensely. Latency is a huge problem with BT, especially the older versions.

Also look for APTX to help reduce the latency.

Yep pretty common with bluetooth, depends on the software model, but the connection itself as others have stated lags

In a previous thread, which discussed this, it was said to be on purpose so people wouldn't try and watch videos or other unadvisable things while driving.

The blueooth in the tacoma base stereo does seem like pure trash - I get skipping and latency. I think it's the head unit b/c I didn't have this issue with the clarion stereo in my Honda. Not once did it skip or have latency.

I just can't decide what aftermarket stereo to buy.

So.. I found a fix. As long as your using a Samsung phone. If you download Samsungs Sound assistant app. And go to " Bluetooth Metronome" And adjust till the #'s sync with audio. Not sure if you can download this app if your not using a Samsung device. But it worked perfectly for me. Good luck Tacoma fam..:mudding:

The app is in Samsung galaxy store not the Google play store. However I just downloaded it and I'm not seeing the option you have. Samsung S9+
