if your objective is to not have bugs splat on your windshield, I don't think it works 100%, you will still have bugs splat on your windshield. Though I really don't know if it is reduced compared to having no shield at all, since I have my shield since the truck was new. I use weatherthech shield (and the window deflectors) and don't have any paint scratch issues. I like the look of the truck better with them.

I have one in mine. Been there since day 1 and will stay there for the forseeable future.

Does it help with bugs....not really. It might just be me but seems to help more with sands and small rock type stuff from the car in front of you hitting the windshield.

I mostly just prefer the look of it over a real use

    Bug Shields???

    No!

    Pros: Zero

Cons: Destroys the lines of your truck. The hood is so flat that a bug shield will do nothing to protect it from rock chips unless it just "happens" to land on that part of the truck. Bug shields are like nerf bars. Just say no.

    Things I need to tow.
I threw out the one on my 1st gen when I noticed the rocks and dirt that got under it was scratching and wearing the paint. I didn't care if it deflected bugs, but was hoping it would keep a rock or two off the windshield. It didn't.

Good thing I make my own decisions about what to do to my truck. I got nerf bars right away and just put a bug shield on a couple days ago. HA!

I understand getting opinions. But until somebody else makes my payments, I think I'll do what I want.

As far as the bug shield goes... if it really doesn't help keep the bugs off, I guess I wasted $50. If it doesn't work, it's gone.

I've got one too and haven't noticed any paint wear yet, but I only have 4,500 miles on my rig. The Stealership told me that since the truck was ordered with the bug guard and it was factory installed, if it damaged the paint Toyota will cover it under warranty. We'll see about that, b/c salesmen are sooooooo honest, right!

I got an AVS and it came with some clear 3M tape that I applied to the paint where the bug shield would come in contact with it. I ain't skeered.

Yup, that's how they installed the Toyota bug shield as well.

Hey man it's cool. I'm sure some of the things I do to my truck others wouldn't like. If you want to paint you're truck pink it's cool.. you are the one making the payment.:p

But... the fact remains... OP was asking for opinions and I gave mine. I don't like them as they serve no purpose and "to me" break up the lines of the truck.

My dad had a bug shield on his truck for 6 years and when I removed it while I was driving it I never saw any paint wear. In my short time with it on and then removal, I didn't notice much of a difference in bugs hitting the windshield. Maybe it stops the smaller bugs, but in my experience bird shit and big bugs aren't phased.

My opinion is they look like a pedophile mustache. Though my opinion may be radical:p

Not mad at you, bro. Like I said, if the bug shield I put on fails to do its job, I will take it off faster than I put it on. If it works as advertised... it's staying.

I drive by a farm on my way to work. A large farm. Thousands of cows, dropping cow patties... which attract flies... which fuck my windshield up. If it works at 50%, it'll be worth the $50.

If I didn't drive through a swarm of flies, I might give a shit about the 'lines' of my truck.

That is not true with all bug shields. I have the AVS version. Mounts from underneath. Does not touch hood.

I would be less worried about that small section of the hood vs the bumper. My bumper is chipped to shit while my hood is in pretty good shape.

    x2 on the pedo moustache.
